i have this intermittently, but it is related to my hip joint. for some reason i can stand weird and sort of pop it out of alignment? hard to explain. it is aggravated by running excessively for me sometimes, but there are some stretches i do which help alleviate it.
could it be sciatic? i know a lot of people have problems with that during pregnancy/after but i don't know much about it.

I used to get a lot of hip pain, both during and after pregnancy. It was sciatica, like a pp said. More recently I started having it again, and I realized it was a result of sitting crossed-legged at my desk for hours a day and not stretching enough.
Yoga really helps, as well as just paying attention to posture (at least for me).
Is it kind of an electric shock pain that shoots down your leg? I have sciatica (from pregnancy/childbirth)and it feels like that. Yoga and sleeping with my hips elevated helps some.
Here's my quick fix sciatica stretch, so you can see if it helps.
Lie on your back with your knees bent & feet flat on the ground. Put your right ankle on the opposite knee. clasp your hands together behind your left thigh (putting your right arm in between your legs). Pull your thigh towards your chest and hold. Then switch and do it on the opposite side.
Your whole lower back/hip area gets stretched out and put through a lot during pregnancy and labor. It too, has to recover from the process. Talk to your ob about it, and see if something like yoga/pilates could help with some core/back strength.

Sciatic nerve is be pinched. I've been having problems with that this whole last year. I hurt/damaged my my lower lumbar shortly after having Nano. Rest, yoga, and being careful about what you lift all help.
