Photography Ladies Come In

I am thinking about getting a DSLR camera because my point and shoot is just too slow to catch good pictures anymore. I took a few photography classes in high school, but we used manual only camera that were older than dirt. I would still say I am pretty novice, but would pick it up pretty quickly.


The problem is budget. Within the next month or so, we will have some major expenses, so I do not want to spend a fortune! Any recommendations on an affordable camera with decent MPs and speed, with automatic and manual features?
