I would seriously consider it depending on the situation/severity. A friend in high school was teased a lot and was upset his parents didn't do it when he was younger. He felt like he couldn't get in done in high school b/c then he'd get made fun of for having it done. If memory serves he had it done between high school and college.
My parents had it done on me when I was 4 or 5. I don't remember the surgery or the recovery at all. I'm glad it was done for me, but it's hard to know if I'd do it for my kid. It was one less thing to worry about, but it's not like it solved all of my problems or made me magically 100% happy with my looks.
Absolutely if it really bothered them. A friend had this done, he was so self-conscious about his ears and it was killing his self-esteem. He felt so much better after it was done. It's a pretty easy procedure.
I would only consider it for a teen who had very obviously big ears. Otherwise I think it is silly. We all have features that make us unique. That should be embraced.
My cousins had theirs done. They were teased mercilessly, especially because for them one stuck out much more than the other.
There are a lot of things I will do to save my child from being teased. I would definitely do this. I wish my mother had told me I could start waxing much earlier. Let's just say that I had more hair than I wanted and it was a daily, painful, humiliating thing to try to keep it hidden. It had a serious impact on how I viewed myself.
I am torn. If the really stick out they can be fixed without being painful and it can be done when they are young so they don’t’ have a complex. It may not be a problem. I don't really know anything about the process. If it becomes a you have to have this done or you won’t look good thing… That I have a problem with.
I had a friend (sorta) whose mother made her get a nose job before starting HS. She was a super skinny kid and her mom took her for fake boobs. She convinced her that beauty is the only way to get ahead. Well she is beautiful but insecure and nutty about "looking good" she is so annoying about getting ready and never leaving the house without being 100% made up all the time. She spends all her money on high end cloths and stuff and lives on her mom’s couch in her 1 bedroom apartment. The father left the beautiful mom for a women with 30 – 40 extra lbs and a pretty large nose. The girl is 34 and never married because no guy sticks around after the 1st few dates. She has nothing to offer besides her looks.
I will preface this with I would have to research the heck out of it bc I don't know enough about what they do, risks, recovery time etc. BUT I would say if I researched it and I was cool with it I would definatly do it if it was extreme and if they wanted to.
ETA: when they were older btw.. I wouldn't just do it for a child. No way.
