Did anyone do this at the same time? D will drink water out of a straw cup but not formula. I have given him a little bit of regular milk in a cup and he will drink slightly more than the formula, but not how he drinks water. So how did you transition to both? Just take away the bottles and formula and hope they drink enough? I feel clueless on this process and I'm stressing about it... probably for no reason!
When we started to give Q milk, I would mix it with breastmilk or formula, then slowly increase the amount of milk while decreasing the amount of BM/formula. It probably took about a month, but he didn't even notice. As for the sippy thing, yeah, I'll be honest I don't remember.
A was different because she never really took to a bottle. When I worked at night she would only take about 2 ounces to go to sleep. So I started giving her a sippy cup really early. Maybe 6 months? I put about an ounce of pumped milk in it at that time. She wouldn't drink it but sometimes she played with it a little. I started putting formula in it at 9 months when I quit pumping. At a year I started with milk. But she never took much from a cup or bottle until very recently when I got her the straw cup. Now she's drinking 16 ounces of whole milk a day from the straw. I think she's just hungrier now so she's taking more. I think they will just take what they need. But saying that and not stressing are totally different. I'm constantly worried she's not eating/drinking enough because she's small. But she's got plenty of energy so I think they all just may have different needs.
I think it is Chelsea who mixed milk with yogurt to get L to take it.
We ditched bottles as early as we could. T has a milk allergy so we use Almond milk and he loves it. Some kids just aren't fond of cows milk so maybe try other options.
We did almond milk right after formula, then transitioned to whole cow milk because I really want her to have the fat. But she wouldn't go for WCM right away.
I had to put the cow's milk in a special cup. She refused to drink it out of her water sippy, silly girl. I only ever gave her pumped BM in bottles and once my freezer stash was gone, no more bottles, and she never asked for them.
We started almond milk at 11 months (so anxious to stop buying formula). I gave them cups at 6 months to explore and get used to using. At that time they we still getting formula from bottles andif they got the cup to their mouths and drank, then whooo hoooo, if not, then nbd.
After they started holding their own bottles, I eliminated bottles at lunch and gave them almond milk in cups. They did it just fine.
