My inlaws are coming this weekend and I want to make sure we're excellent hosts - not only because they are driving all the way here but also because FIL is coming specifically to help DH rebuild our fence.
Food wise - do you put snacks in their room or the kitchen they can easily access? We rarely have snacks on hand but DH said FIL is a big snacker...
What items do you put in the guest room and the bathroom? Want to make sure I'm not missing anything!
I have "guest towels" that are white. Learned that lesson the hard way when my sil ruined 4 of my dark brown towels with her facial cleaner the last time they came to visit :/
Our friends jokingly say we run a B&B, and we just hosted 10 of them for the weekend. Here's what we do:
Each bedroom has the following; - vase with fresh flowers - card with wifi password - jar of "midnight snacks" - I usually do a tray on the bed with magazines specifically for each guests, their favorite gourmet chocolate bar or a local treat
Each bathroom has: - stacks of white bath sheets, hand towels, and wash cloths - toiletry basket with everything you could possibly need - plenty of TP

um, I'm coming for a visit. I am a jerk and never knew it. I usually just have whatever kind of drinks people like and make sure there is plenty of toilet paper.
Is this the first time your ILs have visited you? I'm not interested in the controversy (figures MM would find a way to make a guest room controversial), but I am curious whether you have a sort of typical guest set up for them that you've done in the past. I think "normal" guest accommodations include clean towels, clean sheets, at least one pillow per person and a bathroom that is accessible and has a functioning shower and toilet.
If you want to have fun with it because you're trying to show how grateful you are, I like the idea of a tray with snacks and a bottle of water, and maybe a mint on the pillow or something. In that case, I really wouldn't take it too seriously. Whatever you do above and beyond the sort of "normal" guest accommodations is going to be appreciated and should be just done in the spirit of fun and almost with a sense of humor. I don't think you should feel obligated or stressed out about whether to get the top shelf shampoo for the guest room.
Yep, first time they've visited. We moved 1100 miles away last summer and haven't seen them since. This is their first visit to our new house - it's actually the first time they've been to this part of the country! We used to live 30 miles away from them...
