I was doing that some last summer and loved how soft it made my hair. Not sure why I stopped doing it. I think I may just have to try it again this week.
I've done this for many years; it's awesome. I did it @ a friend of DH's mehendi ceremony (DH is Indian) & was instantly converted. I get my coconut oil @ the local Indian grocery, but you can surely use other kinds. The only problem is I want to smell my hair constantly when I do it.
FINE. You people have finally convinced me that I need this stuff. For my DD1's dry hair and her keratosis pilaris, for my face, for my feet, and for my popcorn. Possibly also my dogs' coats.
I am going to do this right now! I've had this sitting around for awhile and needed some inspiration on how to use it. Your hair looks fantastic!
lol, why did you buy something you had no use for?
I was going to use it for cooking, but hadn't gotten around to doing that. I had bookmarked a couple of threads with all the different uses for it and got busy.
Do you have thick hair? I have very thin hair, and find that deep conditioners make my hair greasy.
My hair is very fine and slippery but I have a lot of it. It tends to look greasy with too much product but as long as you shampoo thoroughly you should be fine.

I've been trying to resist and I give up.
I was just telling H that I'm going to start putting it on David in the winter after baths. He gets dry skin.
I'm not reading three pages to ask this question, so I hope it hasn't already been asked... did you put it on the ends only, or the whole head of hair? I can't help but think that my hair would be horribly greasy if I put it on the scalp part of my hair.

I have very fine straight hair that gets super greasy. I use the coconut oil from the middle of the head and down. I don't put any at the roots.
wait, so you can just whip it with a mixer and it turns into a lotion-y substance? because i'm a little skeeved out at the idea of just smearing straight up oil on my skin.

It seems to come in solid form. Whipping it turns it from a stick of butter texture to more like whipped butter.

But you're OK with smearing this stuff all over your skin?
Not trying to be snarky, but I find it hilarious that people are so weirded out by putting a natural moisturizer on their bodies/hair, but are fine with something engineered from fossil fuels.
Trust, coconut oil works and smells wonderful. The only thing shocking about this thread is that this is news to so many people.
I know, that was a leap. But I had a coworker who thought I was crazy when I mentioned putting oil on my face. She did have a bottle of Jergens on her desk. I bit my tongue.
