I am not a regular on the pets board at all but I am hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. We have two mini doxies, 7 and 4. It's the 7 yo we're having some trouble with right now. All of the sudden she's having accidents all over. She's always had a few here or there but lately it's bizarre- she'll be laying on the couch and stand up and all the sudden theres a puddle, she peed in the bed twice in one week- she's never done this before. First thing in the morning I get up and let her out, well lately she's been peeing as soon as she gets off the bed before we even make it to the door
We took her to the vet and $700 and a ton of tests later they can find nothing at all wrong with her. It stopped for maybe a month then all of the sudden she's back to doing it. I can't think of any triggers that are causing it (thinking it was stress or something) it's just random.
any suggestions/ thoughts/ ideas of what the heck could be wrong and what we can do about it?
It's probably an incontinence issue, since there re wet spots when she gets up, it sounds like its leaking out, not that she's just peeing somewhere because of stress. There are medicines for this, but I suggest getting her checked out by another vet, bc if eel like your vet should have at least given you some possible solutions after spending $700.

Do you have access to a doggie urologist? We hada yorkie who had bladder stones and a couple surgeries to remove thme that caused him to dribble urine. I felt like the vet who performed the surgery dropped the ball so we went to a specialist for the rest of his care. There was a lot of medications that they have to help tighten up te urethra to prevent leakage. They also have a ways to test the strength of their urethera to see if that is a problem. Unfortunatly for us, because our dog had surgeries that had to slice his urethra open, nothing could be done for him to stop dribbling. He was pretty unahppy taking medcication all the time, so we stopped it all and put diapers when he was in the house. He could still get a stream to pee, so we took them off when he went outside. It was an adjustment at first, but made life better for all of us once I gave into the diapers.
I think I need a new vet after this and an issue last year....
It's WAY more then a dribble though, if that makes a differnce with the thought of incontinence. yesterday my DH actually said it was the most pee he's ever seen from her (they are tiny, pee puddles are usually like 2 inches, this was like all over the floor)
I am going to see if I can find any recs from local people for a differnt vet to try

There is not set amount for incontinence. It can be a few drops, or a full emptying of her bladder. It could be a behavioral issues as well. GL! I hope you find a solution.

We had a foster who was left incontinent after a really nasty UTI that didn't respond to antibiotics. She was on a small dose of Proin (pronounced "Pro-inn") and that kept her completely continent. We tried to wean her off, and boom...she was wetting the bed again. It wasn't a conscious thing she was doing...it was like her bladder would just release. Ask the vet if Proin might work in this case, if she seems medically OK otherwise.
Having a 12 year old doxie, I can say that he leaks or drips for two reasons. Either his back is hurting him or he has a UTI. He currently is fighting one now after the first round of antibiotics didn't work.
What did they test for $700!? That seems excessive considering the number of procedures we've had done. Did they test for a simple UTI? I know girl dogs can leak for different reasons and many have had success with Proin.
I'd get results from previous vet and go see a new vet.
thanks everyone, I found another vet that comes highly recommended so I am going to try them. I honestly don't know what they tested- and I guess the whole 700 wasn't just that, about $550 though, it was her annual visit at the same time. My DH took her so I don't know what all the tests were but I am going to ask for her records and try this new one out and hopefully get some answers. Once again she seems better now the last couple days- that's the weird part its like 4-5 days of problems then she's great for a while then it happens again
