Our lease will start May 25th. The property management guy wants a full month's rent plus security when we sign the lease (today or tomorrow), then a "prorated" portion (May 25-31) due June 1st.
It is wigging my DH out essentially paying early. I'm like Meh.
I asked property guy why and he said other companies (not him) had issues with people only paying prorated and security and then staying essentially for free until they could be evicted.

This was how we handled it when I leased apartments for REITs. Letting someone move in who can't pay first months rent would be a mistake IME. If your DH doesn't want to pay, just move on June 1st.

See I thought it was totally reasonable too. They are making us pay with certified check which is a PITA though. I'm so used to doing everything at the ATM. I hate going inside the bank (plus, the 2 branches closest to us don't even have 'insides'.)
A little weird only in that they are not requiring the pro-rated portion along with everything else when you sign--so, weird on the opposite spectrum of your husband.
