Direct to Joburg or Via Dubai?

I'm probably going to Joburg for work. It's only for 4 days but I can extend by 3 days. Going direct is 14 hrs, and I could spend the 3 days in Joburg, but DH and I are planning on going in 2013. I was thinking I could also fly through Dubai, the flight time is longer, but the flight is cheeper and 3 days is probably perfect. WDYT? Any tips/thoughts on those who've ben to Dubai?

I really want to go to Dubai! We are headed to JoBurg in November and were going to have a short layover there with no time to see anything, but I found cheaper tickets going through Doha on Qatar Airways so that's probably the way we will go.

I've never been to Joburg, so I can't vouch for that, but have been to Dubai plenty. Will you be flying Emirates? If so, that in itself would make the decision for me. Their entertainment systems are great you won't even notice the extra few hours, I don't think. Plus there is TONS to do in Dubai, 3 days will be perfect!

It's Qantas direct or Emirates, it looks like I can fly through Dubai to get there and then direct with Qantas home, so that might be worth a look.
