My DD1 would be in heaven, lol. She thought it was awesome to see two of them at the zoo, she would flip her lid if there was an entire flock when we walked out of the grocery store.
Holy shit. Eagles are fierce. I saw one up close at the zoo (it had a broken wing and the zoo was taking care of it) and it was scary. Like, it almost ate me. Without half a wing.
I realize it would probably get old if it happened often, but the wild of Alaska amazes me. I mean, where else would you walk out to your vehicle, in the U.S., to that sight?
That's so cool. My kids think seagulls are eagles, and they've definitely made me look more than once. Although actually, they look exactly like seagulls in that pic, if that truck were the crusts of sandwiches. Or full of fish heads.
Apparently the guy had trash bags full of fish in the back of the truck.
Why? Who knows, it's fucking Alaska.
As soon as I saw this picture I was going to say that there must be trash in the back of that truck.
H, FIL and some friends helped capture an eagle off our friends beach. It couldn't fly and hung out there for days. It looked like it had a broken wing. So the guys captured it (I have pictures!) and sent it to the conservation/rehab center in Juneau. Turns out the poor bird had bone cancer and they ended up putting it to sleep because it was in so much pain. We did learn that "Pete" was a girl and 13 years old. H was the primary one who carried her and said she weighed about 30 lbs.
@jezebel Do you know where she got this? My DH is convinced it has to be fake.
I don't know where she got this, but I promise it's not fake. I have tons of pictures that look like this, and it's easy to "bait" the eagles in about February when they are very hungry and the salmon haven't started running yet.

Eagles are just seagulls in tuxedos They are huge scavengers, just like seagulls. The "best" place to guarantee a seeing a large number of them is to go to the dump. Around here, you'd never believe they were endangered.

I'm totally going to teach that to M & N, they'll love it

He is like, "Eagles don't flock! And that eagle-snatching-the-baby video was fake, so I don't buy this one, either."
I keep trying to tell him that if they're so not-scared of people that they will come to a parking lot and eat out of a truck, that they might act a leeeetle bit differently than expected. Kind of like deer.
