Talk to me about half fanatics. After my half on Sunday I qualify no see that there is a membership & yearly fee do I get anything out of joining other than saying i am a half fanatic? Is it worth it?
I like the information on the message boards. I can usually find a race discount, or more insight on race quality/ course tips. I also like meeting up with the group before races for the picture. It's pretty fun at out of state races, because you have a built in cheering group. For larger races, there's also usually some sort of meet up for drinks/ brunch afterwards.
This!
To me it's like a large national/international running group. It offers discounts, social events, a cheer squad, and a level of respect from other runners. Making fanatic status was a big goal of mine this year and so far the support I've received from the HF community has been way more than I ever expected.

Shoot- you guys might be convincing me to spend the dollars.

I had no idea there were benefits like that! I'm kind of tempted to go for Maniacs this year now... I just assumed it was a one time thing for bragging rights, so thanks for setting me straight!

I qualify now, but I'm waiting until after my race this weekend to sign up to get a higher level My friend has been in for a couple years now and has talked it up. Basically a big supportive network - she said that the sharing of race discount codes and other deals pays for the membership. I'm looking forward to seeing what it's all about
