I live up north (maybe 2 hours from Farwell?) and have never heard of it, but a camping/music event is not something I would probably ever go to, KWIM? Farwell is in the middle of nowhere.
they want them to open for Korn, it would be great but they also want him to invest which we need to look into alot further. I think they would want to attract hard rock fans

For what it's worth, it's a college area. CMU is a 20 minute drive. If the place was advertised enough in Mt. Pleasant, then they could get a lot of business from the college students.
However, I've been here for the last 7 years, and have yet to hear of it. I've never known someone who has talked about it/gone.
The investment part of this seems very risky to me.
Do they want him to invest in the venue itself or the concert tour for Korn (or is this a single show)? If it just the one concert or the venue, when is it? Summertime may mean not as many college students in Mt. Pleasant so not as big a draw. From the website, it looks as if most of their concerts are in the summer months. And it looks like they only have one concert/event booked for the summer at this point.
I don't live in that part of the state but I have never heard of either Harmony Hills or Silver Ridge Ski Resort (and I used to ski all over Michigan back in the day).
they want him to put money up to pay Korn they are also negotiating with Guns N Roses for a second day
It would be in July
If Korn was playing, I could actually see that being a good draw if they are marketing it as a music festival, especially if they get one of the northern MI radio stations (KLT?) involved as a sponsor. They are a decent amount of music festivals and concerts during the summer months that do well.
I think it might be timing with Common Ground and Cherry Festival both being in July. I think most would go to one of those more popular venues. Common Ground has some decent artists this year.
Doesn't sound like it's set in stone if they're still negotiation with Guns N' Roses, which is skeezy. And having to pay? Yeah...weird.
I've never heard of this venue, however I think I heard of the previously named ski resort.
Cherry Festival attracts the worst acts ever that are mostly for the 50+ or country crowd, so I don't think an event like this would compete, esp since cherry festival is in early July.
I've lived in MI my whole life & have never heard of it either. Even if it's close to CMU & MIGHT draw a crowd from there I'd still be skeptical since it'll be in the summer when most of the students go home.

Mt. Pleasant is a ghost town in the summer. I made it through town this morning in 5 minutes, when it usually takes me about 15.
Clearly, I have my opinion on this matter because I keep coming back to it. I honestly do not think Korn has a huge fan base up here. The investment is just not worth it. Farwell is such a small town, and so much in the middle of nowhere, that no matter what, people would have to travel to it. No one is going to 'travel' to Farwell. There's no lodging for people. It's so inconveniently located, it's such a bad idea.
I've grown up between MI and IL and went to college in MI, DH spent almost his whole life in MI...neither of us have heard of Farwell or the Silver Ridge Ski Resort. As far as a fan base goes, DH is a big rock fan (although not Korn) and WGRD (Grand Rapids rock station) is pretty successful, there is also the group Pop Evil that is local to Western MI that did pretty well and has a lot of local fans. But I'm not sure there are enough to support a concert that far up there in an unknown venue. Given the location in the middle of nowhere in a basically completely new venue I'd be really skeptical about "investing." I wonder if they are trying to follow in Rothbury/Electric Forest's footsteps?
