Is it cool/fun/useful/a good gift? H's birthday is June 1, and he is SO. HARD. to buy for. (I'm sure I'm not alone here when it comes to buying men gifts). I was thinking of something he would enjoy, as he loves his 56 inch tv.
I am no help...my SO's birthday is in June and I am getting him a water thingy from Teavana that heats water to a specific temp, based on the tea...and likely some books.
For TV stuff, what about netflix? Maybe a DVR if you rent one versus own one? Game console? I believe the PS3 doubles as a blue ray player....DVDs or a box set? What about speakers or a nice sound bar?
Sent from my DROID3 using ProBoards
Thanks for the ideas! We actually own a DVR We have a wii, but have not used it since Oct. I have threatened H to sell it. ("oh, no I'll hook it up!") and believe it or not he HATES golf wii games, he says its unrealistic. Golf pro gets madddddddddd.
I could do a box DVD set.... I've also considered a DVD player for the main tv because it doesn't have one built in (I think after 48 inches that's not a feature anymore).
We are buying a media center console thing for this tv (it's coming in June) so speakers arent' a bad idea...hmm...

We have apple TV and we like it, but DH said if we were to buy it again he would prefer the Roku. I don't remember what the difference is haha sorry. MH is just like yours, he doesn't really need anything. What about tickets to a sports game or a concert? Or a O/N getaway someplace? Or booze? DH loves it when I get him scotch/whiskey/bourbon.
One thing to note, the last time I checked you can't connect with Hulu Plus on an Apple TV. I am a huge Apple fanatic and this is the one reason that we got a Roku over the Apple TV. I am happy with the Roku.

We have an Apple TV, Roku, and PS3...and our TV has most of the apps as well (a lot of redundancy, no?). Anyway, I can safely say..PS3 is awesome if he doesn't have one because it can do blu-ray, video games obviously, dvd, hulu plus, amazon on demand, and netflix!! Roku is nice as well since it does the same things (minus disc playing and video games) and is small which fits well in tight spaces. Apple TV is nice if you have a lot of apple products..e.g. iPad and iPhone that you would want to stream to the TV. It also gives you access to Apple's rentals through iTunes. This summer iMacs will also be able to stream to Apple TV after an update. In summary, unless you're dying for Apple connectivity..I have to agree with PP and go with Roku (the newer one) or PS3 if you're willing to get something a bit bigger. If you don't mind the bulkiness, the PS3 is much faster than Roku in our experience and has a better interface overall. Hope this helps!
