She's a trooper though! She hasn't been training or anything because she had surgery earlier in the year and just recently got cleared to be active again. So we signed up for a 2/6.5/2 duathlon for Mother's day. (for fun!) The swag was awesome: tech shirt, makeup/coin purse, darling medal.
We got our transition all set up, and mom set her goal of 2 hours (not very lofty of her!) We headed out on the first run. At about 1.25 miles, she tripped over a root on the trail and fell. Skinned her knee up pretty bad, got some scrapes down her shin, and on her ankle. But she muscled through. We had actually passed one person, so she was happy about that. BUT, that same lady passed us while we were in the first aid tent gettin her wounds tended to. The EMS guy was kind of incompetent (trying to stick a band aid to her wet skin for example) but the supervisor gauzed her up and wrapped her knee.
She bucked up though and we finished the bike fairly quickly and she only had to stop and walk two big hills. the second run went well (and we passed that same lady again!). AND, we finished in 1:58. (so well within her goal even with a 7 minute EMS stop).
