So I went. I was really scared. I did about a mile of laps around the block while I waited for them to show up. Of the sixty-some-odd people on the email list, four of us showed up today. I was definitely the slowest one. I kept up with the group, but, beforehand I would have told you that their pace was my 5K pace. I guess it must be slightly slower than my 10K pace because I hung on for six miles. It about killed me. In a good way. Did I mention that one of the guys who I was struggling to keep up with had just run a 50 mile trail race on Saturday? I probably can't hang with him on a normal week. I will definitely be back for more, but I may skip the Wednesday run. I think I should plan my training schedule so their runs fall on speed work days.
All that to say, glad I went. I feel like shit now, but in a good way.
Good work Brit; sounds like some serious speed work! This will make you faster. I think it's smart if you plan to meet up with them on your speed days. (Just make sure you take easier pace days sometimes when you're on your own. )
It doesn't surprise me not a lot of people showed up on a Monday. I bet there will be more people your pace on the weekend (not that here is anything with a slightly faster group, I've mentioned before how I am the slowest female in my group). But I have other groups with people my speed. Between running and cycling and swimming, I am a club/team whore - which can be dramatic because, well, its like high school sometimes out there!
