I asked for advice about flying solo w/ DS a little while back. Now I am trying to decide whether I should get an umbrella stroller or not. He still likes the Ergo, which is what I use to carry him through the airport. We have the UBV and while I love it, I can't close it with one hand. So, WWYD? We are leaving this Friday night and my solo flight isn't until the 24th. Should I bother getting an umbrella or no?
we have a chicco that we use as our travel stroller and I really like it. It's sturdy enough that I can hang bags on it (and a car seat) when traveling and it folds easily and is very light. I prefer to travel with a stroller if I'm traveling by myself because then you have another place to stash stuff and it's not all hanging on you.
An true umbrella stroller would just be one more thing to deal with and wouldn't help you any more than the Ergo (if he likes it).
This was my thought too. We never got an umbrella stroller largely because of this exact reason. We have a great stroller (city mini) that is very easy to travel with and we can use it to carry some of our stuff.

On the way there, a man offered to help me. (he had a small child and was with his wife) he held DD while I collapsed the stroller at the gate. That was the only point where I needed another set of arms. On the way out, he waited and helped me again
On my return flight, I didnt find any friends so I asked one of the people at the gate to hold her (the people that take the strollers at the door). The lady was excited to help me. When I came out, I stuck DD in the seat and put it to the side and then set up the bottom. (i do that everyday coming up my stairs ) i was the very last person off so nobody could be annoyed at me.
It is doable with the SUV stroller and it is so great because you have all that undercarriage part for your stuff. (hands free)
Or if you want to check the stroller, you can easily take the seat off and put the baby aside, collapse the frame, ergo the baby and then put the seat back on.
Anyway, people are SUPER helpful. At least 3 people offered to help me on the way there. Just look for families.
We just bought one. We we packing for a trip and realized that we couldn't fit our stroller in the trunk with all of our stuff. Dd also loves the ergo, but it's a bajillion deg here in charleston, so we knew that wouldn't work for long.
I couldn't find what I wanted in stores, so I should have the one I ordered from amazon delivered here any minute. A 5 pt harness was a must for us.
Thanks ladies! Buncha, did your stroller arrive yet? How high are the handle bars? DH is 6'2/6'3 so we need something higher. One of our biggest issues with umbrella strollers is height since most seem really low, even for my 5'6 self.
I have the Chicco Capri (same as ijack), and I think the handle bars are pretty low. I'm only 5'3" and I would like them to be a tiny bit higher. I also constantly step on the wheels because the handle bars don't stick out much in the back. I guess this stroller is decent for travel, but we bought it thinking it would be good for short walks around town, the mall, etc, and it's not cutting it. It does fold up really easily and nicely, though (not sure if I could do it with just one hand.)

I fly alone with my daughter fairly frequently. For most trips I just use the ergo or the mei tai. The new policy, as I understand it, is that you shouldn't have to take them off to get through security, TSA should just do a test on your hands. In reality, it depends on the agent.
When I have to take her off I put an empty bin at the front of my stuff and I throw the carrier in there at the last minute. That way it is the first thing that comes through. I put her back on and then grab my bags as they come through.
The last time I flew alone I was 32 weeks pregnant. I decided we needed an umbrella stroller. I went with the G-luxe, which is tall enough for my husband to push happily (He is 6'3"). I like the stroller a lot, but didn't find having it at the airport to be any easier than just wearing my daughter.
