Graduation gift

My BFF in HS had a baby our senior year. He was supposed to be adopted but after he was born my BFF changed her mind and kept him. She's done an amazing job as a single mom all these years and he's graduating from HS this year. I just got his announcement in the mail. I need to send a gift. What do you think is appropriate?

My go to (dh has had a lot of cousins graduate) is a bed bath and beyond gc so they can get stuff for their dorm room. Not too exciting...

I think it depends on what he's doing next year. If he's going away to college, I like the BB&B idea. If not, then something for his car, future job, GC to an office type store for supplies if he's going to a local school. Maybe some restaurant GCs?

He's going to a really good college in NY where we're from. I'm so proud of both him and his mom. They live in the middle of BFE and there are no BBB's so I'd just do cash. We don't have a lot of it right now, in fact we may need to borrow to get this god forsaken refi done, but this is important. I'd also like to get his mom something. She's kinda sad too because its just been him and her since 1994 and her life is going to be so different now. I feel for her. But cash is no good for her. I'm going to have to think about that one.
