A few months ago I made a post about stupidly giving bank information to this company because they called about my Husband and court papers and legal junk. I talked to my bank, closed out the card, opened a new one. My bank told me it's a scam, the internet has told me it's a scam. I figured as much. So no harm, no foul. But they would call the house at least 4 times a day afterwards.
Now they've started again. This time it's a woman who is all "I'm a private investigator, I need you to call this number to release the hold" and I'm all "you do what now?" she said again that she is a "PI who delivers court summons/paperwork".
I asked her if anyone has actually physically come to my house to hand my Husband papers; she said "oh, I don't know. Just call the number. I don't want to waste my time on the phone with you". I told her I had referred her number (the same one they used last time) to the Attorney General's office and that I've been advised about this scam. She got huffy, spit out a "claim" number and a phone number.
Googled the number, yup, same company.
It's ACS and it's the same company I've been advised to not deal with since they are scammy scammers who scam.
Not even 10 minutes after hanging up the phone she calls me again asking why I did not call to release whatever. I told her I really had no intention of doing so and she got pissy and yelled at me to do it "RIGHT NOW" and hung up on me.
Now I get to listen to these people leave voicemails for a few weeks.

Sounds as annoying as the incessant calls I get from Charter Communications. I don't even answer numbers I don't have saved in my phone anymore. If its important they'll leave a message and i call them back, but that's rarely the case.
how forceful with them are you on the phone? i'd be like "i know that this is a fishing scam, i do not ever want to hear from you again, do not call this number, i've reported you X, Y, and Z" and then i'd hang up.
I told her I reported them, knew it was a scam, and wouldn't be calling the next number. I had told her that she could bring me papers, to my door, if this was so urgent.
I don't answer the ACS calls, since they are unlisted.
I don't know if I should answer and say what you said to say or if I should keep letting it go to voicemail? I don't want to give them the satisfaction of me answering but if I can actually get them to stop by saying so?

That sounds awful. I do like the whistle idea. Can you call your local police dept to find out what would constitute harassing calls that you could file a report on?

i'm in the "doesn't hurt to try" camp, but i might be wrong. i took a similarly aggressive stance with someone who was calling me about crap the woman who stole my identity had fucked up. it worked, then, but i haven't been in your exact situation.
When she asked me if I was his wife and couldn't even get through her own last name (seriously, hers was smith. She kept messing it up), I should have said no and "your last name is SMITH, pronounce it SMITH"
I had this happen a couple years ago. I asked them for a validation letter; which they sent something was not a validation of the debt. So I basically told them I had contacted a lawyer and that without a validation letter I am requesting that they not contact me again. They also had the debt listed as being from like 5 years ago and SOL is 4 years in my state, so I stated that as well. AS soon as I laid out that I knew what he was supposed to legally, I never heard from them again.

I might have to try that.
Last time, I asked for paper work. "Oh, we don't mail paper work out", really, you don't know how to use a printer, stamp, or envelope? Can't find a mail box? Nothing? Lol.
