Has anyone taken their 18 month old toddler to Sesame Place (or other kid themed park)? I realize that it will be a long day, but I think that with some patience, it's doable. MIL wants to take DS and me, SIL and her son, who is 5. DS loves Elmo, so I know he would enjoy the parade, shows, etc. but some of the rides I'm not sure he could even ride with me. I was thinking that we could rent one of the cabanas, they have a fridge, a ceiling fan, lockers and a place to relax, and we could hang there if he needed a nap or just some down time. What say you, MM Moms?

We haven't been to Sesame Place yet, but we went to Dutch Wonderland a few weeks ago, and DH and I both felt that it was too old for our kids, who are 21 months. I think I wouldn't do an amusement park again until they are at least 2 years old (and not DW, which doesn't have cool characters until they are 2.5-3 years old). This is especially true for Sesame Place, where admission is $59 for one day for an adult (unless you go in the off season before 6/29 or get a deal). We're waiting to do Sesame Place until later this year at the earliest.
The Sesame Place website says that for rides where they can ride under 42" with an adult, "no hand held toddlers permitted on rides." Am I being dense by not understanding? What do you think they mean?

I have yet to bring myself to spend so much on Sesame Place, as it would be more than $200 for the four of us. I know, peanuts in comparison to other places, but when Dutch Wonderland is 30 minutes away and we can get discounted tickets for DW, it just makes more sense to go there. I'm excited though, tomorrow DDs and I are going with other family members to DW.
I know it's not very MM, and I would likely not pay for us to go until I know DS would enjoy it. MIL is paying, she wants to take both of her grandsons. I would offer to pay for the cabana, because it would basically be for our comfort.
I haven't been since I was a kid myself, but my sister took her twins last year, when they would have been around two. I know she said they had a blast seeing all of the characters. In looking at her FB photos again, it looks like there were some rides for little kids (carousel, something that looks like spinning teacups), as well as activity areas with things for kids to climb on (e.g. big foam blocks).

It actually says no hand held infants. Toddlers are fine. We took DD last year when she was 18 months and she loved it. She could go on most, but not all the rides, b ut her favorite things walking around the park, playing in the play areas, ahe LOVED the shows and parade. We also did a character meal which is ridiculously overpriced (as is everything there) but she was in heaven hugging all the characters.
You're right, it does say infants. I was wondering WTF a hand held toddler was! Thank you for your feedback. He will likely be 18 months or so when we go, and the rides look like ones he would enjoy. I was considering the character meal, too. Expensive, but i'm sure he would love it.
We have a membership and love it. There really arent too many rides a toddler can't go on. The roller coaster might be the only one and I'm not even sure about that

we LOVE sesame place. We went 2x's last year - once in may and did all dry stuff, and once in August and rented a cabana and did water stuff + dry stuff. We LOVED having the cabana - totally worth the money to us - to have a place to chill, keep stuff, etc... and you get private time with The count there + you get to go to the meet and greet before the parade - and meet ALL the characters - my boys LOVED that - worth the money juts for that part! lol
our twins were just under 2 when we went the first time, and just over 2yo the 2nd time - they loved it but didn't do a lot of rides- they aren't ride kids (yet). but my 4yo was thrilled on the rides. The shows and parade were great.
you will need to reserve the cabana ahead of time - they sell out.

We went last year when DS was 27 mos and he LOVED it. We did wet stuff onthe first day & dry stuff the second day (the pass we bought was 2 days for the price of one). We also did a character lunch and that was pricy but worth it. We plan to go back next year when DD will be about 22 mos.
We took DS1 when he was 18 months. We did two days there, to make the days shorter, and the cost for 1 or two days was the same.
DS had a great time and was able to ride their rides. No hand held toddlers usually means that the kids need to be able to walk onto the rides themselves and sit next to you.
The Elmos world and Abby show were cute, and the pools were all no more then about 2.5' tall and were walk in pools, which was great for DS.
Thanks so much for the feedback! My decision is so much easier to make now! Looks like we're going probably at the end of June, and planning doing the character lunch.
