I have to go out of town next week for work and I don't have a car. I planned on renting one since they'll reimburse my mileage anyway. The CFO (who is also going but on a different date) was talking to the owner about the plans, who is going, etc. when the owner realized I don't have a vehicle of my own. He offers me use of his very expensive Mercedes to drive 4-5 hours over mountain passes and busy freeway but said it was perfectly fine if I wanted to expense the rental. I have no car insurance of my own. WWYD? (I already made a decision based on some other factors, so this won't affect it)

I would expense a rental. No question. Car insurance typically is for the car, not the driver, in most states so that wouldn't really be an issue but I wouldn't want to have to deal with ANY insurance for someone else's car. Especially the BIG BOSS.

I'm already going for the rental because I'll need it over the weekend too. But his niece that works next to me said that her Uncle J would be totally understanding if something happened and she's driven it multiple times. I just don't want to have that responsibility.
