Because I feel the need to ramble a bit.
I'm getting sad that I can't get an interview anywhere. I know my resume is fine, but I wonder if my cover letters are too... fluffy? Like they can tell I'm desperate.
I watched Silver Linings Playbook the other night. You know how Bradley Cooper's character acts before he takes his medication? Yeah, that how my dad acts on his medication. To a "T". I loved the movie because it made me laugh and feel normal. Like I'm not the only person who deals with mental health issues within a family. But I think they over simplified the issue. He takes his medication, goes to his therapist, finds a hobby that takes focus and discipline, falls in love and he's pretty much back to normal. It's just not that simple.
Will DD later: ::it wasn't anything great, I promise::

{{PS}}
The bathroom in my office is out of commission again. This time it will be for "several weeks". And of course it happens on a day when I am running in and out of there all day.

No, I've only had a few friends review my resume.
It's pretty basic:
I saw ____'s ad in ____ for ____ and am interested in the position. I graduated in _____ from _____ with a degree in _____ and have _____ years experience with _____.
<A graph that shows the companies requirements and my qualifications that meet the requirements>
____'s dedication to ____ is legendary and it would be an honor to be apart of your team (or something paraphrased from their website). I look forward to proving what a hard working, self motivated and creative individual (or what ever stuff they put in as a requirement of the job) I am.
That's from the top of my head, but do I lay it on too thick in the end? I thought that's what you are suppose to do, but now I'm second guessing it. Maybe it seems to desperate?

I'm just an admin assistant, so my cover letters may be different. But I always left my college history out of my cover letters, I do say something like "for more details regarding my qualifications, please review the attached copy of my resume.". But again, people with my skills are a dime a dozen so my cover letters really don't draw people in.

I put my education on the cover letter because (a) what I graduated in isn't what my field is (related, but not the same) and (b) I've only had one job since graduating.
It's a technical degree, so it's a little more specific and I think it describes more of what I'm capable of. Instead of being pigeon holed into what I'm doing now.

I am late but, big hugs PS. I am sorry to hear the bad news about your dad. Mental health stuff is so hard. My mom struggles and I wish I had a way to help her but she won't even go talk to a doctor at all.
Cuddly, you have the worlds neediest bathroom. It just got fixed a few days ago! Did it even survive a whole work week?
I have some feelings to express on Boyfriends parents but I think I will have to make a post tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the kind words and sympathy. You guys give me a place to go and ramble on about my feelings (and also gives me a different perspective then just H's). It's the best gift ever.
PS, I missed your DD, but if you need hugs, I have them. Maybe it would help to make your cover letter a bit more personal? Who knows. I hear a lot of mixed info regarding the cover letter.

It is. The thing is, they renovated the space below us a few years ago. But they only upgraded the plumbing on the side across the hall from me because the rooms were occupied. They asked about upgrading the plumbing below this side of the hall and were told no because "nobody uses those rooms". Then boom. LOL. I've taken to saying "Old buildings are fun!" on the regular.
