H thinks that his design (A) would look more balanced because the drawers would be under the TV and our couch is centered to that section of the wall. He thinks that extending the drawers across the 2nd section of wall makes the TV look off-center because it would be in the nook on the right. I don't know if that changes opinions or not. Maybe we'll compromise and do just one row of drawers, but carry them all the way across. Then maybe it will look more airy.
Maybe you could do a thin piece of wall between the two drawers. It would make one or both of your drawers smaller, but it might give you more of the look you're going for.

But with the recesses area being drywall. Although having it be your drawer pull is kind of neat.
You could also do a glass front to give it more of an airy feel. If you didn't want to be able to see through the drawers you could have the inside papered or something to make it opaque.

I'm all about function and storage right now, so I would pick B. I like that it has a lot of drawers. I think if you have the right materials/hardware for it, that it can still look modern.
