Backstory: we moved last summer and I ugly cried when I left my GI behind. I've had 5 GIs since my DX and he was heads above them all. Since he doesn't do virtual appts, I had to find a new GI here...
So I first saw my new guy last August, shortly after we moved. He had zero personality but I liked his nurse, he took his time with me, his office is in a good location, and he seemed to know his stuff. However, my records hadn't made it to him yet so it was just a new patient/establish relationship visit.
I decided to give him one more try to see if I clicked with him any better. And, I decided I had to lower my expectations as I was likely never going to find another GI like my previous one. I saw him last week because my labs came back with some issues.
He still has the personality of a rock and is WAY TOO SERIOUS for my liking but he really impressed me. My records finally made it - all 295 pages (his nurse was fairly impressed!) - and he not only read the entire thing before walking into my room but he also rattled off every major test, lab, all the details of my surgery, drug reactions, etc from memory. I was seriously shocked. He mentioned stuff even I had forgotten about!
Not only that, but his nurse remembered everything about me (where I had moved from, where I worked, that I was in a wheelchair last time, etc) and was very personable. I truly think that a good relationship with the nurse is the ticket!
So... I think I'm going to stay with him for awhile. Maybe I can loosen him up?

I'm so glad you found one you think will be good for you, that's so nice to have that comfort-level and be able to trust your doctor.
I do like my GI (female) and her nurse, but I do generally have to call them to get updates on test results. They have been responsive and quick to get me in when I've needed it, even getting me in the same day I call sometimes. Also, she is always asking me what questions I have and thoroughly answers them all and explains the reasons behind certain reactions and such.
Also, the office location is convenient for me and if I need to draw blood, I can just go in on a Friday without an appointment and the nurse gets me in and out fairly quickly.
