The Big Bang Theory 5/17

Did anyone watch last night's episode/season finale? What did you think?

I thought this was pretty dull. Simon Helberg (Howard) had said in interviews that this season's finale would involve some kind of cliffhanger, but I didn't quite get what that was ... unless you count Raj suddenly being able to talk to women without alcohol. IDK if the Leonard storyline really counts as a cliffhanger, unless he's going to be absent for a portion of next season.

I was bored with Raj and Lucy's storyline. If they're not going to have Lucy make a breakthrough with being able to talk to Raj's friends next season, then I think it's better off that they split up and move on. Maybe Raj will get involved with someone else now that he's able to speak.

I felt like we were being built up to get some giant emotional display from Sheldon once Leonard left - like he'd wind up crying or seeking comfort from Amy or something, but nope.

And I liked Sheldon's toast to Leonard, but I was *really* hoping we'd see that exaggerated fake smile that he had when he was congratulating Raj on that 30 Under 30 thing a while back:

I was disappointed in it. For a season finale, it kind of blew.

I wonder if they didn't plan a big finale because they knew they'd be going up against the last episode of The Office?

I DVRed it and at the end I saw there they said something about "if you're a true fan there's a new special episode coming up next" but obviously I didn't catch that to record so I didn't see it. Did anyone get to watch it?

It was just a rerun. The battle of the sexes episode.

Well I'm glad it wasn't a new episode, but that makes me dislike the finale even more in a way. It felt like such a let down, though I can see what PP meant about maybe they just realized they'd be against The Office. Still though, they've already ended a season with Leonard going away for work for a few months.

I thought Raj and Penny were going to hook up again, which would have made me yell at the TV. I wish they'd move the storylines along. The second half this season has been really boring. The first half was SO funny. What happened? I loved Howard in space! He's become my favorite character.

The battle of the sexes ep is one of my favorites. I laughed so hard at the pie eating contest!

I thought the same thing.  I'm so over Raj, I don't like what they've done to his character at all.

Penny told Leonard she loved him. (that was the first time right?)

I like Lucy & Raj, it's nice that they both have some baggage to overcome so they understood each other. Even if they don't get back together I hope that Raj finds someone soon. He was so sad when Penny went to his apartment.

When did Raj get that Yorkie dog? I've seen it for a few episodes now ... did they show him actually getting the dog in an episode, or did it just sort of show up?

Howard and Bernadette got her for Raj after he fell in love with Siri (on his phone).  ETA:  My mistake, it was after Raj considered marrying a lesbian just for the companionship.

Thanks! I saw the Siri episode but I must've missed the one where he got the dog.

I totally agree.  I do catch every new episode, but don't follow the show too closely other than that.  I would have had no clue it was the finale.  And as another PP mentioned, they ended a previous season with them leaving for work.  Just seems odd that they are repeating story lines like that.

Twice! They've already ended a season with someone from the group leaving for work twice. Once when the boys all left together, and then again when Howard went into space. Apparently that's the most dramatic story arc they can come up with for the group.

I think they like it because they can move the story forward without having to do it onscreen.

This show never really seemed to have too many life-altering plot points anyway. It seems more like a bunch of friends just living their lives. So I think it's sort of natural for the show not to have a huge cliffhanger or a dramatic storyline in every season finale.

This is probably true. But it was still a bit disappointing.

And I really don't like Lucy. She annoys me.
