70s/Flower Power/Hippie theme party - Help Wanted

H and I (and my parents, his parents, and SIL's parents, YIKES!) and I are headed down to Puerto Rico in a couple of weeks (YAY!). The main event is a big family celebration to celebrate my grandpa's 90th b-day, cousin's b-day, and other cousin's wedding anniversary, among other things. Its basically all of us crazy people getting together at my cousin's house and my control freak aunt planning the whole thing.

She decided that she wants it to be a hippie/flower power theme, and casual. I have a vintage peasant top that my great grandma had made for my grandma (who passed it down to my mom, who passed it down to me) that I love and hope to wear. It is currently being repaired, as some of the embroidery had come unraveled because I didn't take good care of it during my college days when I wore it a ton. It looks almost exactly like this. The fabric is a sheer blush color, and embroidery is all different bright colors:



I'm stuck on what to wear it with though. I used to have a pair of purple Dittos jeans which would have been perfect (my mom wore that brand when she was a teen!), but I must have gotten rid of them, cuz I can't find them anywhere. I have these J Brand jeans, would that work? My only concern is that they are hemmed to be worn with heels, and with my ankle issues, I'm not so sure that's a good idea yet. I would wear wedges if that's the case.

Otherwise, what else could I wear with that top? 

Also, any hair/makeup suggestions? Considering I just cut off 3-4 inches of my hair, haha.

Those jeans would be good, but let that ankle heal! (I'm still recovering from a level 3 sprain from over a year ago. It sucks.) My mom always wore a bandana tied around her leg above the knee when she wore bellbottom jeans. If you can't wear the jeans with flats, I'd go with a long flowy skirt instead.

OH! I just remembered I also have these from the Gap, and they are "flat" length!

Yeah, its gonna be hot and humid for sure, which is why I was also concerned about wearing jeans, though I don't have any long skirts that would work.

I also have no idea what H should wear.

Just saw the humid comment. The dress you posted would work, but I'd still do a flat sandal and either those teeny circle sunglasses or big huge ones.

I'm still weighing my options. If I were a skirt that one would wear with that top for such an occasion, what would I look like and where might one find me?

IOW, please help me find a hippie-like skirt that would work with that top, or at least some inspiration for what I might look for. I'm willing to pay more for something I could wear again, and less for the more ridiculously hippie looking versions. I wouldn't want to pay more than like $50-60 either way if possible.

What about those flowy skirts that places like Forever 21 are selling for the summer festivals? The kind that the people who wear flower crowns with Wayfarers wear? I'm sure you can find something like that for relatively inexpensive. Also, I like the idea of the flower crown. I saw some in Claires a few weeks ago that were targeted toward the festival crowds.

The dress you posted is definitely more 60's than 70's. I just saw these shorts at F21 and think they could work with the top and a flat bootie.

I'd look for a tiered gauze skirt. I found this in the girl's department at Kohl's and think they may fit since you have shopped Crewcuts.

I love all of those shorts FCG. Unfortunately though, any time I have tried them, I always feel like I'm wearing a diaper since I'm proportionately larger on bottom. Its not cute, lol. I like that 2nd Kohl's skirt a lot, I may have to check that out. I will be wearing sandals since its Puerto Rico and my feet get really hot, so the idea of boots in that weather makes me feel ill, lol. I do like those inspiration looks though, thanks so much!

No problem bimbi284! I'm just used to wearing boots all year here since we have so many animals running around our property. Lol! I am so afraid of getting bitten by who knows what in our yard.  I do flip flops and sandals only for the pool, on our concrete walkways, and to go out.   I wore my Fryes last year for our Anniversary when it was 110 out.  

Grace Potter is another one to look at for inspiration. She is the ultimate hippie. Her shorter hair styles may work for you and she's typically barefoot once she chucks a pair of heels across the stage.     Here's her short hair look for Coachella.
