Anyone know anything about "natural" deodorant? I decided to give one a try, but all the ones I looked at were just deodorant (not antipersperant) and here in the south I really need the antipersperant part more.
I did pick up a Tom's one that's new that says it does both, but I didn't read it corretly and one of the main ingerdients is aluminum something.
Isn't the whole point of the "natural" ones to move away from aluminum? Did I pick up a pointless product and if so does anyone have recs for a more natural that's antiperperant not just smells good?
I tried some natural deodorants (Tom's and Crystal) because I was having a reaction to the aluminum in Dove. Like you, I needed an antiperspirant and I felt like I smelled all the time with the natural deodorants.
I just started using LaVanila deodorant, i dont know about it as an antiperspirant (sp?) but i love it as a natural deodorant. I was also looking for something without aluminum.

I can't remember what kind of aluminum is in there. I just thought I'd read that the point of the "naturals" was to eliminate all the aluminum, but that's the internet of course so I don't know if that's sound advice.
This is the Tom's I picked up - haven't gotten to the summer months yet, but it seems fine so far.
My bro uses Tom's, he's all crunchy granola too, so I'm guessing its good? He used to smell bad because he wouldn't wear deodorant, and using Tom's, he doesn't smell.
I use Tom's in the Apricot scent. I wear it because I was getting rashy with regular deodorant. The Tom's is okay on me. I like the apricot scent. In terms of effectiveness, I think it's okay. I do need to apply in the afternoon but I'm willing to do that over getting rashy.
I'm interested in other suggestions, though.
I've tried the liquid crystal kind and I really didn't like it.

If you are looking for aluminum-free deodorant then you will lose the antiperspirant quality, as all antiperspirants contain aluminum. Anything without aluminum is just a deodorant. Deodorants allow perspiration but contain ingredients to kill the bacteria that causes odor, while antiperspirants (containing aluminum) work to completely block this natural and healthy function of our body.
I use it on the weekends..during the week I use Dove as I'm constantly running around with kids so the antiperspirant thing is nice, but I'm trying to get away from it and only use it a couple times a week. I don't sweat profusely or anything, I just love the Dove scent/moisturizing effects.

I hate that stuff. It smells good but does not work at allll

My brother is way hippy and went off the deodorant for awhile. Per him "no one" in Portland wears deodorant b/c you don't need it up there.
Well let me tell you, he came down to Louisiana to help after Hurricane Katrina and he smelled so freaking bad I couldn't stand it. He swore that was because of the heat he wasn't used to, but he did end up back on the deodorant a few years later (thank goodness). It was not just the heat - he stunk!!
I really feel like here in the south I've just got to have some sort of sweat guard. I don't want huge pit marks, but from the post above that's not going to happen with a natural. Guess I'll just stick with my regular old Dove, but thanks anyway for the suggestions!
