Apparently, my new pup picked up kennel cough on his transport down to me. We got him on Saturday and he started coughing this morning. He was scheduled for a vet visit this morning for a once over and the vet said it was kennel cough.
He prescribed antibiotics and told us to keep an eye on our other dog since they had been around each other already.
Is there anything I can do to try to ensure that my other dog does not catch it? If not, what should I do to make sure this doesn't come back (wash bowls, toys, etc?)
It's like a cold in humans, so, most the things you would do for a child with a cold. wash blankets, bowls, etc, wipe up snot.... that's about it.
If your dogs are older and have been vaccinated (Bordatella) they are probably ok (but a lot of dogs don't get that vaccine). Its also like the common cold in that there are a lot of varieties, so the vaccine is only sorta effective.
