I think this is a must read after GBCN's Wiki feud. I am fascinated. Apparently one of the Wiki editors is actually a writer who created "sock puppets" to boost his own biography and discredit his opponents. Then a journalist at Salon sleuthed him out. Fascinating.
We (meaning, me and others on ML) tried to update the The Nest's description on the Knot's wiki page. The editors took it down, stating we did not have a news source. They also came to GBCN to discuss/argue about it. We pointed out there was no simultaneous news coverage of Jesus' birth, either, but there was still a Jesus page; they never really addressed that point. IMO, an observable fact (mass exodus of users from site A to site B) be should have been acceptable but, in any event, an analyst ended up covering the story and that was sufficient for us to edit the Knot Wiki page as we had originally intended. At the time, it seemed critically important, we were prepared to fight it out n definitely. Anyway, I am now using the term sock puppet for the JLM's of this world.
I *think* the Motleymfool article eventually was the source we used, but we didnt have it until a full scale battle. Hard to believe we have been on GBCN for so long we have forgotten our creation story!
