This is not going to be pretty. He is very attached to it. Any advise when he falls apart tonight? It broke, so we told him he would need to throw it away but he completely fell apart.
I just walked in the house and he's already begging for it. My heart is breaking for the little guy.
He started bawling when I got home. DH is now mowing the lawn while I deal with the fall-out. Guess he was begging for it the last couple hours but with me he falls apart.
I'd give him another pacifier. Ds2 had one till he was three; he was a wreck every time he tried to give it up. He especially seemed to need it when ds2 was born, when ds1 was just at two years old. Then, one day, he didn't want it anymore.
We started by limiting it to various places. "You can use it in the car". "You can use it in your bedroom when you are in bed". "You can use it when you are sitting on the couch".
We do this. DS eats itine car and for naps, since about 18 months. This way, he's happy, and I don't have to die on that hill.

He is 3 and 2 months, baby sister has 8 more weeks to go in the oven so we'd hoped to get this done before her arrival. He was limited to bed and car but DH would cave and give it more often or we'd sometimes forget to take it away after nap.
with the baby coming? he's going to have a major regression in behavior for a bit; if you can stand it, I would let him keep it. It is really hard for kids that age,and with a new baby they need all their coping mechanisms.
Oh crap. I knew about the potty training/regression buy didn't think about it with the baby. He's happy now with a Popsicle. Here's hoping he calms down for awhile!
