its like wearing compression shorts (which I think are the most comfortable thing to wear while running) while getting some coverage so you are not running in itty bitty spandex. Also, in the summer, the fabric wicks away the sweat. Also, they are cute enough to wear when you are not running so they are multi-functional. Plus, they are just fun.
Capris are too warm for the summer and shorts are limiting -- I own some non-black running shorts but all my fun stuff are skirts.
I'm thin but I still have upper thigh chub rub. My running skirts have helped a lot with the chafing I have experienced in shorts. Also, I can't run in capris if it's over 60 degrees. I'm a sweaty mofo.

this, I do not understand. How do skirts prevent chafe experienced in compression shorts? seems to me if you chafe in compression shorts then you are going to chafe in compression shorts with a skirt on them too.

I think she meant she chafes in regular running shorts, not compression shorts.

another vote for cute! i wore one today b/c i knew i wouldn't have time for a shower between my run and PS pickup so i took off my shirt, washed my face, and threw on a tank and i was ready to go - shorts aren't as multifunctional!

A local maker of running skirts who until recently has only shown at race expos has a new store front. Their grand opening is June 1. Definitely some food for thought. I would love to wear compression shorts but don't because of the lack of coverage so that's an awesome point.
They are just for fun. I don't necessarily think they are better or worse than shorts. I'm opposite gumi, I think running shorts are the most comfortable thing to wear, but I still can't resist a pink running skirt with ruffles, even if I think the compression shorts underneath are mildly annoying.

Yes, exactly this. No bunchy fabric with compression shorts.
I had no interest in running skirts for a long time (I'm not that girls). But, now I love them! For some reason I think they are cooler. In the winter, I've worn one over tights because my butt always gets too cold. Plus, I've never found a short or tight with better pockets!
I just picked up a running skirt this week. To me the appeal is the compression shorts, having my butt hidden but looking cute all at the same time. It's my first pair so I'll have to run with it for a few times before I decide if I really like them or not.
It's all about the cute factor for me. I spent a decade an an athlete completely denying my feminine side and I am now catching up for lost time. My husband, who married me in the earlier part of my life, thinks it is very funny (in a positive sort of way).

Maybe I am just wearing the wrong ones, but I hate them. I think they are cute but the shorts underneath ride up and are insanely uncomfortable to run in. If I could find one with longer shorts, I might try them again.

Could you explain why you couldn't do this in shorts?
I just got one from Athleta earlier this month and have worn it on all of one or two weeblewobbles around my neighborhood (and yes that's what I'm calling it now b/c it sure as shit doesn't feel like running). I bought it because it was cute, but it turns out I actually like running in it too. I don't like/dislike it any more than wearing running shorts though, it's just another option to pull out of my dresser.

b/c shorts are not cute. i don't have a better answer than that. sorry to disappoint.
