I had posted about my friend who is renting our house in Fl, and the next door pit bull that got out and killed his cat, even being in a cat pin. Well it seems they had pit bull puppies, and the dog was attacking them in the front yard, cause they never fixed the gate. My friend called the cops, and animal control came out. They were trying to get the older dog off one of the puppies, and the dog turned around, and attacked a cop. The cop shot the dog. My friend said the puppy was in bad shape, and you could hear a dog going crazy inside trying to get out the entire time. They assume that was the mom of the pit bull puppies. Next door was not home, and my friend said he didn't even know they had puppies, till the bigger pit broke out the gate again and they scattered. He had two in the house, and said they looked to be maybe 4- 6 months old. The one the dog was on when the police arrived was badly cut up, and bitten, lots of blood he said, police said they were taking it to an emergency vet. I hate people like this, and I hate that the dog was killed, but damn I am glad that dog is gone, and I hope they remove the other dog from the house, and refuse to give the puppies back.
Killing of animals makes me sad but I'm glad that dog cannot hurt anyone or anything anymore. I hope they find awesome homes for the puppies and that the owners have hell to pay for training/teaching/ignoring their dog enough for it do this.
But I wish you would focus less on the breed of the dog and more on the shitfuck owners who don't take care of their dogs, no matter the breed.
Not aimed at you - I pretty much assume that the dog is NOT a pit when someone insists on mentioning the breed over and over and over again. Most people can't even pick a true pit bull out of a lineup.

See I figured she mentioned the breed because to me, I would assume the neighbors were breeding the dogs as fighting dogs or doing something they shouldn't be. And pits are commonly used in these situations. I know I've always been told that someone who has an aggressive pit, then has lots of puppies, and keeps the Mom from the puppies, that they are raising the dogs for fighting.
I could be absolutely wrong and if I'm right, I'm glad it was caught early and those puppies can find a new, happier life.

10000% agree with you, especially on the last comment. I'm just a pit lover and hate when stories like this perpetuate the stereotype - especially if/when you're not positive of the breed.
Do you remember a few years ago (ok, maybe almost 10 years ago?) the woman in San Francisco who was killed by her neighbors' dogs in the apartment hallway? The local news kept reporting that she was attacked by two pit bulls. NO. They were Presa Canario dogs.

These are pit bulls, I grew up with pits, and had two as pets. I love the breed, these were pure pit bulls. I hate the stereotype also given to that breed. I am not trying to focus on the breed, if it had been a lab, or any other type of dog, I would of called it by its breed.
These guys were back yard breeders. Turns out the mother pit bull was chained in the back yard, and ripped her throat pretty bad before they got her. They also had borrowed another pit bull to stud out to the mother. They took all the dogs, turns out there 6 puppies, the mom dog, the dead dog, and two other males in the backyard. They took them all. My renter said they had not fixed the fence, and the dogs were all on the thin side. The guy next door came home, and was allowed to take one of the other hurt puppies they found after the other police officer had left. We are thinking of adopting one of the puppies or the mom dog if they get turned over to be adopted out. I am so sad about the mom dog, renter said her throat looked really bad, and she tried to attack the male dog that was shot, so everyone thinks she was trying to protect her puppies and about ripped her throat out.

I hope some good can come out of the situation. How horrible.
Is there any action being taken against the owners?
Oh that poor Momma dog. You are amazing for wanting to adopt one of them.
Berbles, I was 10 when that happened, so I don't remember it. But I know lots of people get the breeds wrong. I just feel bad for any and all dogs raised by shitty owners who don't train them correctly or raise with intent to harm.

This drives me nuts too.
Sounds like the dogs owners should never have annals again.

I remember this. I knew that the dogs weren't pits. I watched national news, though. Maybe that made a difference. Also, I believe, the dogs that attacked her were raised as fighting dogs.
I am hoping they get fined, jail time, and never allowed animals, even a rat ever again. I feel so bad for the dogs, and hope the puppies pull threw. When the dog killed the cat, he did a lot of damage to the cat. It was brutal so I can imagine what happened to the puppies. We had been talking about getting a new dog, so we will see if they pull threw and what happens.

I don't know that they were raised specifically as fighting dogs, but they were "raised" by negligent criminals who were in prison at the time of the attack and had left their dangerous dogs with two people who couldn't control them and had no business attempting to take them out of the house. It was a really sad story. And it will always stick with me because I wrote a paper about dog attacks/leash laws while the trial was happening, so I used the case as an example in my paper.

Precisely what I was referring to. Did we have this discussion the other day? I posted that site for someone around here.
Nope, I didn't see that. I forget where I found this site, but I used it a long time ago when my dad was anti-pit. Then later, I got my pit and now he loves them just as much as I do.
#13 on that site is a Presa Canario. Even though I'm sure in the right hands they are sweet dogs, they are SCARY looking. I'm a ridiculous dog lover, but I can't imagine trying to pass two of them in a small hallway; especially ones that were clearly as aggressive as the ones involved in the SF case (before they killed the lady, several of the people in the building had reported being threatened by/scared of them).

That's a shame. Clearly they were not in good hands. The Presa Canario has a great temperament usually. Very loyal to their families and so smart with a calm demeanor.
