I think you should. The silence in between contractions is awkward, lol. So it is either music or a random tv channel for background noise. I find myself singing "push it" in my head. You should definitely put that on one of your playlists. Lol But, your pushing time will probably be much much shorter this time, so you probably won't need it.
we watched amazon instant streaming on a laptop. i needed to "do" something to take up time. i love music, but it would not have made the day go by fast enough (i was in labor about 12 hrs)
eta - ok we were obv not doing this while pushing. lol
I've never been to a delivery with music during pushing. As long as its not too loud, I think it'd be a fun idea. Music motivates during a workout so why not pushing? Lol.
The masters golf tournament was on and everyone would turn around to watch it between my pushing and discuss. As I look back, it was a little rude, a few times I and to tell them I was contracting and asked if I should push? But I was watching and discussing it with them as we'll, it was a good distraction. My ob said I made his day: water broke on own so didn't have to induce, FTM that only was in labor at hospital for 8 hours, and he was done by 5 pm on a Friday with no other patients to deliver that weekend.

I didn't. I didn't think of it beforehand and as it turned out I barely had time to catch my breath before I had to push him out. Once I started pushing I couldn't even open my eyes. What was happening was already sensory overload.

The alternative to them discussing the tournament would have been all eyes on you, just staring and waiting while you try to catch your breath and focus and the deafening silence. It is awkward sometimes in the room, I swear. There is only so much coaching you can do, so you just sit and wait for the next one. But I like music when I work out, so I think I would like some background music to push out a baby. Of course I pushed for threeish hours, fifteen minute pushers with the "there wasn't any time!" can suck it. Lol

i watched the nutty professor when i was in labor with noah and delivered during montel williams.
i think the disney channel was on when i had evan (noah was there until it was time to push and there wasn't any time to really turn it off since e came so fast and i kind of wasn't paying attention).
This second time around you might not have time for music anyway. I certainly didn't. I didn't bother with music for my first, either; in fact I don't remember how I passed the time then because I didn't read or watch any of the DVDs we brought.
We watched Oh Brother Where Art Thou during my first labor (no pushing, ended in non-emergency c/s) but I was on day 3 of an induction that obviously wasn't moving very fast.
The other 2 labors it was quiet, but I was tired and trying to doze when I could.
when I'm in a delivery, it's usually random crap on TV, like Family Matters (Steve Urkel, anyone?) or RHOwherever, lol. it'd be cool to have music playing instead because sometimes the doc and/or nurses watch the tv between pushes if they catch some interesting dialogue or something. I think it's unprofessional, but catch myself doing it too and I try not to.
I can't recommend "Transitions" enough. You can find it on Amazon. It's sounds from the womb and is very relaxing and also works unbelievably well with calming the newborn. It's crazy how well it works.
Yes because the ticking clock drove me fucking mad.
The down side was Jake's phone battery died, we didn't have our chargers, and we had to borrow a nurses' camera.
But seriously the ticking clock while I was pushing made me MENTAL.
ETA oh and I used my workout playlist because I needed to be pumped up and psyched up and whatnot. It worked, I pushed for 4hrs in the room before moving to the ER to push them out.
I didn't listen to music, that would have annoyed me. I was doing "Hypnobabies" and was listening to their tracks during labor with each baby (lol--because these started to annoy me too and I just wanted QUIET!). I labored at home as long as I could and was only in the hospital for 3-5 hours before each kid was born. I think if I was in the hospital all day or something I'd want music. Maybe.

all that to say I'm in favor of music during L&D.
I try not to watch tv but I glimpse from time to time. I had a dad and the male OB watching a football game one time and when the baby came out screaming, the OB said "Yeah!! Go Cowboys!!". The nursery team all wanted to punch the OB for the mom. That being said, in between contractions you don't want to be staring at the woman's vagina so...there's that. The mom usually isn't interested in chatting and I feel like chatting with coworkers can be equally rude. It's kind of a no-win situation.
