This is our new pup. I picked him up on Friday night. He was living in a house and pet hoarding situation in a small airplane crate with no windows for most of his life - less than 2 years. He was kicked as a training method and suffered broken ribs and a broken tail. After a rough first day, he has played and ran in the yard all day, discovered toys and is now crashed!
These dogs continue to inspire me the way the rebound from horrible situations.
Friends of ours rescued a tiny yorkie when she was 7 months old. She'd been kept in a very small crate the entire time, never let out, never played with. They've had her about 2 years now. At first she only wanted to play or be touched by them but now she loves everybody. Once she's sized you up and decided your ok she backs up to and waits..... that's her signal to pick her up and love her. She is the sweetest dog. Good for you for rescuing these dogs and giving them a chance at a happy life.

It makes me so mad at those horrible people that treated him like that! There is a special place in hell for them. DL, he is adorable! I think dogs can teach us a lot about recovering from bad situations. I love that you do this. Love, love, love!
DL - you are getting the happiest looking sad dogs ever! He's gorgeous and soooooo smiley!
He does have a huge smile. I don't know if it is because he is so happy to have freedom to roam where ever he wants and explore the yard or if some of it is anxiety. When we first brought him home, he was completely unable to relax. Slowly, he's getting there. It should be easier now that work has started again and we can establish a base routine.

Oh em gee. DL. I want to give him the most gigantic belly rub and hug and snuggles and head pats an buy him 500,000 tennis balls. I love Golden's so much and he is so sweet looking. I am melted.
holy smokes! How awesome! And you haven't completely fallen to pieces giving them up - so kudos to you! Its amazing how many adoptions happen that you don't realize. I read a blog of a cat foster mom and they get adopted out so quickly there! Our sanctuary has had two adoptions in as many years I think. (we aren't actively looking though - just ads on petfinder).

Ugh yes I have with the last one we just gave up this weekend. I was really, really attached after only 8 weeks.
Our group typically adopts out about 150-200 dogs a year. They are breed specific to goldens.
