Rutgers fired their athletic director after a scandal involving abuse of the basketball players by their coach.
They recently named Julie Hermann as the new AD. And now volleyball players that she coached at the University of Tennessee 16 years ago are speaking out, saying she verbally abused them, calling them whores and alcoholics, fat and stupid, and learning disabled.
There's been a lot in the paper here and on the news about this (because duh, I'm in Knoxville, home of UT-K).
I also saw that she worked under Tom Jurich for 15 years at Louisville, which is interesting. I've met Jurich a few times and lived in Louisville before Jurich was the savior of all things Louisville. There were a lot of people - including coaches of the smaller sports - that were not huge fans of him. And the ones who were big fans of his, well, they were kind of assholes. I used to work for the men's & women's coaches of a specific sport. Anyway, now I think, in Louisville, Jurich is really revered for what he's done with the football and basketball programs but 10+ years ago, he didn't have that kind of status and people were quicker to complain about him and criticize him. He had a rep for being an asshole.
