I watched my dying grandfather, who is now home for hospice care, celebrate his 61st wedding anniversary with my grandmother. He is stuck in bed and will never walk again, and he is having a hard time speaking, but I snuck him a bouquet of flowers to give her and he grinned so big. When he held them out for my grandma, who has very bad Alzheimer's, she asked who they were for because she didn't remember it was their anniversary. He just touched her cheek gently and managed to say "you."
i feel so lucky to have known him, but my heart is just broken for them. This is so hard and I can't stop crying about it. It's hard enough to see him and the way she can't remember what is going on, but my poor dad is just shocked and I feel so damn bad for him. I'm so sad you guys
. I'm so sorry. This made me cry. I just lost my grandpa last month and its horrible watching them suffer. I hope your family finds peace during this difficult time.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I am so sorry. They are blessed to have had each other for 61 years but it sucks and is painful to see the deterioration. I'd like to give a big FU to Alzheimer's.
I'm glad you were able to be there. I'm also sorry you were there.
so many ((hugs)) It's so sweet that you brought him flowers to give to her. Be happy knowing you made both of their days better.
This!! You are such a great grandaughter to do that.. it doesn't seem much to us, but Ibet your granpa was just thrilled that you thought of that. 61 years together, something that should be commended that is committment!
