Electric kettles (never made from plastic, ever - always made from metal) are the best thing I ever learned about when moving to England. You can boil water far faster than on the stove and so makes making anything with boiling water so much faster (pasta, potatoes, etc). If I moved back to the States, I would so buy a metal electric kettle.
Microwaver here, but now you're making me regret selling the electric kettle we go for our wedding. We never really used it but it never occurred to me to use it to speed up boiling water for FOOD!
My coffee maker has a hot water dispenser (separate) from the coffee side and it's perfect for tea.
Before that, I just boiled water on the stove. I've never boiled *anything* in the microwave and if I had my way, I'd get rid of the microwave alltogether. I never use it. It takes up too much counter space and I hate cleaning it.
This reminds me of that woman who was super incompetent and was always asking the most inane questions back on the Nest (I think she hung out on the then Babies on the Brain?) and once asked (legitimately) the following:
"How do I make tea."
She followed it by the fact that she had purchased these tea bags, and she knew that there was a hot water requirement, but she couldn't put two and two together.
It was most entertaining, the responses.
I wish I remembered her name. Not that it matters.
What is wrong with a proper stove top kettle? None of the uneveness of a microwave and none of the plastic flavor/burn the baby risk of an electric kettle.
From: dina&eric Date: 8/16/2006 at 5:35 PM ok, ive never made tea first of all. the instructions say for a glass of tea to pour boiling water over the tea bag and let sit for 4-6 minutes. but that would be flavored water i'd think. shouldn't i let the bag sit in the water 4-6 minutes? the instructions are confusing, sorry.
Yeah, I always use a tea kettle. A real one. On top of the stove.
It's pretty weird to realize that there are so many people who think doing it that way is, well... weird.
I really don't see anyone calling that weird. What's causing all the disbelief is "YOU BOIL WATER IN THE MICROWAAAAAAAAVE?!?!?! But doesn't your tea taste like SHIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT?!?!?!"
Yeah, what I should have said is that to me,it's weird to learn that many don't use a tea kettle to boil water. But yeah, not because of anything to do with taste. Hot water is hot water. Apparently I missed the discussion that this stemmed from.
