Yup, they went to a private proboard. I really liked their daily blog post threads. If I remember correctly, they didn't like how TN used their recipes/picture on pinterest.
The regulars planned a defection to a private board because of shady TN stuff. They seemed pretty open to requests to be included in the new board but made it very clear that members must post regularly or be dropped. It scared me off because I really liked the WC board but didn't have a food blog to share and mostly used it as a lurker to great blog recipes and occassional postings to basic questions. I got the feeling the new board was going to be highly experienced cooks talking and exchanging blog links, which wasn't me.

this but i'm not sure where their board is i loved their blog post of the day for inspiration!
Actually, we very rarely talk about blog things. I would say that there are MANY non bloggers on the board. What we didn't like was people looking just to look. We are not chefs. We are home cooks. We cook what you cook, we just torture our SO while we take pics of it. We like the board because we can ask non-cooking related questions without repercussions of those comments/questions showing up on google, etc.
Branny- thanks for posting. I see your point about wanting people to participate and not just "looking just to look." I guess my question is then why do you have blogs if you want the additional interaction? I loved lurking on WC and occasionally posted. But I didn't have much to say, so I figured that I would have gotten kicked off the new board pretty quickly. And I didn't think you wanted me to post just to post and stay in the group. As it is, I have most of your blogs in my google reader.

I enjoyed lurking to see the food blog updates also. I guess they didn't enjoy our lurking? lol
Thank you for saying you like looking at our blogs. The fact of the matter is that the most vocal people said they couldn't stand WC anyway because when they'd ask for a recipe, we'd link to our blog. I don't know why that comes as such a shock - why would we copy and paste our 'tried and true' recipe instead of link? Why would we work so hard when people don't come for the community - just come for recipes - to make it easier for them? After multiple posts of bashing the WCers as whoring out our blogs, we figured that most didn't want to see them anyway, and those who did would just add them to their google readers.
I've been on WC since the day it started (What's For Dinner) and have become close with some of the posters there just as you MM girls have become close. It is comforting to be able to talk openly, yet privately, on a board where we fundamentally have cooking in common but now know that there is much more in common.
We'd love to have you, as I'm sure you have recipes from other sources to share, or valuable input about our NCR posts, we just didn't want people keeping tabs on what we're saying only to have it thrown in our faces later.
I didn't mind the links to the blogs. I'd rather go to blogs of nesties than some random person or place. Branny, can you send me the link to the WC board? Thanks!
I understand what you're saying branny. (A few people in this post demonstrated your point quite well.) I'll pop on over to the new board and check it out sometime and try to post more. I miss you guys, even though most of you don't know me since I was never a regular. Lol
I'm curious about how blog stats have changed for some of the posters. I know I have only a few in my reader, but would often peruse links in posts.
My blog hits have increased. Most of us bloggers have Facebook and Twitter pages for our blogs; some have Pinterest; many submit photos to FoodGawker and TasteSpotting; a lot of us get hits from FoodBuzz. The Nest wasn't our only source of traffic.

Thanks for this post. I just joined and am waiting for approval. I'd LOVE to share my foibles in the kitchen and learn from you ladies as well.

An old "WC'er" here, too. My traffic was never greatly influenced by TN, so no loss there. That said, a link is just so much easier and it's very odd to me that people can't comprehend that.
The reason for the ProBoard having a posting minimum is to allow people to open up on a more personal level. Like branny mentioned, there's way more that's talked about than food and I think people appreciate having a closer knit community that they can talk about their insane MIL or whatever the case, without the fear that that information could surface later. TN could never offer that, so people never divulged much without worry. I know the WC'ers way better after just a few weeks than I'm sure I ever would have on TN. Great group of women!
