They don't require a ton of space, but need vertical space because they climb.
Mysterious wife, we currently have one vine and have harvested about 30 so far this year, with more coming. Also, one loofah contains hundreds of seeds, which we save to give away and use next year
I kind of do want some but don't want to make you go through the trouble of shipping. Where can I buy the seeds?
This. I'm in zone 10A so I don't think timing is an issue. Also, I know I can google, but prefer a first-hand opinion. I know they're pretty large vines - is the foliage pretty?

I've never seen them for sale at lowes or home depot. We got ours from a friend's garden. Legally.
They are really leafy and green with pretty yellow flowers. The actual loofahs look like cucumbers when they are growing

Yep, we always have them! Our original seeds came from a small envelope of seeds and we have been growing them for about 5 years now. We give tons of seeds away each year

Would they do ok running up the post of a porch? I just got done weeding all my flower beds and need to find some stuff to plant. We have yet to plant anything in our beds and we have been here a year and a half now!
