Like a kindle/kindle fire? I love to read, and have been wanting to get one, and trying to figure out which one would be best. I really don't need anything too fancy, I just want it mostly for reading, but if I can get on the internet I wouldn't complain, lol. Could someone explain the different ones to me? I'd prefer something not too expensive, hopefully less than 200. Thanks!

I debated between the paperwhite and the plain, ol' regular Kindle. I'm sure that the paperwhite is amazing but I like the original because then I can just toss it in my purse and not be too concerned about it since it's relatively inexpensive.
I have the nook. They just updated with books and apps available through google. This means I can play candy crush on another device when I run out of lives (hi I'm aggie, and I have a problem). TBH, I just love that you can change the background color, brightness, and font size. You could get that with any of the options.
I have a Nook simple touch, I think it might be the least fancy option out there. I like it, but it's just for reading, can't get on the internet. I would assume it is pretty low priced since less fancy often = less expensive.
I love it because it is super easy to read on (e-ink!), not terribly expensive, has some rudimentary (albeit weird) internet, AND has 3G! I love that it has the 3G.. getting books EVERYWHERE.
Oh, man. This is EXACTLY what I wanted when I was getting my Kindle but it didn't exist. It looks just like the set-up of the first Kindle and it has 3G. Dammit. Why didn't they have this a few months ago?

OP, this is the one you should get.
Umm.. this has existed months ago because I've had it for over 2 years!
Well then I am an idiot. WTH? I think I was overwhelmed when I was looking at all the Kindles. I was really sad because mine had just broken and was trying to find one just like it but couldn't. Maybe they were sold out when I was looking or I just couldn't see through my grief.

If you want the Keyboard, I have one that I'm selling. PM me if interested!
I love my Kindle Paperwhite. It's just like reading a book. I can even read it in the car without getting carsick (though it helps that I make the font real big so that my eyes aren't moving as much, if that makes sense)
Also, my response is in that thread, but I have a Kindle Keyboard and love it. I still prefer reading paper books, but I love carrying around several books when on vacation or not having to carry a thick, thousand page book around.
I have a Sony (which was my first and H uses when he goes overseas) and two Nooks (Nook Color, which is mostly Edith's now, and the Nook HD+, which is a tablet and a reader in one). I love them hard. I really like that the Nook and the Sony don't have proprietary software and that you actually own the books as opposed to the Kindle, where you don't.
The Nook SimpleTouch is freaking awesome and if I were getting a reader just for reading, I would get that in a second. I sort of still want one, but can't justify it.
I had the kindle touch, then it got stolen. But I was glad because the paper white came out and I wanted it more. I like to read in my bed at night and not disturb DH, so the backlight is awesome. I also love being able to read in the sun (by a pool, on the beach, etc) if you get a color one, like the kindle fire, they are basically just tablets and reflective outside. The screens are like smartphones and you can't see them everywhere, but you can get apps and play on the Internet. I really just wanted to read and I already have an iPhone and we have a few iPads in the house. So yeah, kindle paperwhite is awesome but if you don't read in the dark the touch will be just fine. And I prefer amazon to Barnes and noble, which is why I went with kindle.
I have an old nook, one of their previous generations with the touch screen only on the very bottom of the page. I'm not even sure you can buy them any more, lol, the new ones have much better Internet connectivity and features like color screens.
I prefer to use my Samsung tablet with the book app on it for traveling, but I actually do still use the reader-only, since I have it. I do like the e-Ink screen for reading, it's very booklike.

We have both Kindle Fire HDs and old school Kindles. I do 90% of my reading on the old school Kindle. It's easy, cheap, and nothing has really been better for reading.
I have a Kobo Touch and absolutely love it. Books are easy to get, and it is small enough to put in my bag to go anywhere. It is e-ink and no glare. I can't surf mind you but I have a laptop for that.
Just my 2 cents, and Kobo's are fairly inexpensive as well
Chiming in to say I have an old school Kindle, and love it waaay more than I thought I would. With the e-ink (or whatever it's called), it's like reading a print book rather than staring at a screen. Mine has wi-fi, which is nice if I haven't planned ahead and downloaded enough books for a trip. I get most of my books from the library, though, so I rarely use the wi-fi and just download via USB.
I read a lot, and I love being able to go somewhere for a weekend or longer, and not have to carry a separate bag for books!
How does the paperwhite work? I don't like the Fire for reading because of the backlight. I have a regular Kindle with a case that has a book light on it, but was considering the paperwhite.

The paperwhite is actually front lit. There are tiny lights along the front of the traditional e-ink screen that provides illumination if you need/want it. I can therefore use it in bed, in the car, etc without the bulk or disruption of the illumination field of a book light.
Nice! I am thinking of giving my 13 year old my current one and getting the paperwhite, so this is good to know.
I have a Nook and Jake has the Nook Simple Touch. We love both, but Jake's is easier to browse on.
However they are so far lasting well. I use mine every day and it's 2 years old. So that's another good thing. I'll put up with browsing on a computer first
I chose the Kindle paperwhite over the Fire. I'm super crunchy/tinfoil hat/paranoid about blue light before bed from screens, so anything backlit was out. I feel like it messes with my sleep to look at a backlit screen before bed.

Same here. I love my Kindle. I don't think I'd like the Fire d/t the screen for reading. I'm not familiar with the paperwhite.
I have the most basic Kindle, and the only inconvenience is having to be near WiFi to download anything, but I do have a mobile hotspot on my phone that I can quickly turn on if I really want to. Other than that, it's perfect for what I wanted (which was just to read without having to carry multiple books around - I like to read more than one book at a time). It's small and light, and I have a little horizontal book light that I clip onto the top that doesn't get in my way. I got the one with special offers, so it was $69, and probably the best $69 I've spent in recent memory.
