I got rear ended AGAIN this morning. That's the second time this school year. The other time was mid-September. This morning's accident happened at almost the exact same place as the last one, maybe a few hundred yards earlier in my commute. It's on a really dangerous part of interstate when there is traffic, because it's coming up on a busy exit, and traffic always slows down a lot right there. The truck in front of my slowed down, and I slowed down as well. I was starting to move my foot from the brake to the accelerator and the person behind me just slammed into my car. From the impact, (compared to last time, when the person was clearly slowing down, but couldn't stop fast enough) it really felt like she didn't slow down at all. It kind of gave me a little whiplash, b/c my head flew forward then back again. So my neck hurts a little now.
My car isn't too damaged. Some bumper damage, but that's all I can see. She mostly hit the part of my SUV where you would put in a trailer hitch. So I will have the body shop check for structural damage. Her car was a tiny saturn, and it was in much worse shape. With the hood and everything all bent up. Probably not drivable.
It sucks that her car had so much more damage, but it was definitely her fault. She had been driving erratically before the accident. She was in front of me, and I went around her to try to get away from her. Obviously that didn't work.... UGH.

i'm sorry i hope you got her information and she was properly insured, and it won't be a headache for you.
last year was my year for getting rear ended. THREE TIMES. luckily all were not my fault, and only one of them did any damage to my car, but i have no idea how i lucked out that way.
Oh no! Was G with you??? I got rearended last year, similar story to yours, got hit in what sounds like almost the exact same place (I drive a 4runner, he had a miniCooper). I had no frame damage. A little over $5K worth of body work though. His insurance paid everything.
Did you have the cops came out for a report?
Thankfully G wasn't with me. Our baby sitter lives in our neighborhood, so I don't even have to get on a main road with him in the car during rush hour. THANK GOD.
The cops did come out and file a report. I wanted them to come b/c #1 for some reason I didn't have my insurance card with me. and #2 my neck was hurting, so I wanted a report filed so I can go to the doctor about it later if I want.
That sucks! Hopefully they are well insured and you don't suffer any long term effects from getting hit. Crazy drivers make me angry.
They have the same insurance company I have (State Farm) and my insurance has always been great in any accident I have had that was my fault. So hopefully they will be great in this case as well.
That sucks I got rear ended really hard last summer ($8000 of damage to my car) and on top of whiplash and a sore neck, I also had some really bad back pain for a few days. I went and got XRayed just in case. If you start feeling really sore, you might go in and get checked out (her insurance had to pay for my doctor visits) just to be on the safe side.

Good! I've heard State Farm is really good about that stuff.

Yeah, last time I got rear ended it was $5000 worth of damage. Which is ridiculous. But still....
My neck is hurting on the left. And the top of my shoulder on the left too. I will probably have to go get checked out.
That sucks. I was rear ended a few weeks ago, but the guy ended up driving away before I could get his insurance. I have a picture of his license plate number but they haven't caught him yet
Yesterday someone tried to get in my lane without looking and I tried to get out of their way and popped my tire on the curb. I wish I didn't have to share the road with crazy drivers!
Do you guys think my car seat is probably ok? It did little damage to my car, like didn't even hardly dent the bumper, and he wasn't in the seat, but it was in my car, latched into the base. I looked online and it said there was a 5 step process to deciding if your carseat was ok, and it passed that test. I asked the officer, and he said it would be fine. But I didn't know for sure. I just want to make sure G is safe.

Ask the SF rep - mine was AWESOME last year when I got in a wreck. Thankfully DS's carseat was not yet in there, but if it had been, I would have said "I'm going to need $xxx as well for a new car seat." No apologies, no explanations. Tell them you want them to pay for a new one. (if that IS what you want).
Same boat/different paddle, but in my wreck I had SF & the at fault party had SF. Its not as rough or confusing as you would think. Just a long process IME. SF paid for all of my bills + a little "pain & suffering". I just said TYVM, took the $$, got my car fixed and moved on.

What seat is it? Since you mentioned the 5 step, that is usually used by Britax.

it is a Britax b-safe.
Then yep, if it passed the test they provided you're good to go. You can always replace for peace of mind, but the manufacturer says it isn't necessary.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. And honestly, if it was a convertible seat that he would be in for longer, I might ask for a replacement, but we're about to switch seats soon anyway... and it passed the test. So I think its ok.
I was rear ended last year with both my kids in the car. I argued with State Farm for months over the car seats, but they wouldn't budge. They passed the test, but the person who rear ended us left in an ambulance. I just bought new ones myself. Definitely try to get in today to the Dr. I had neck problems and they took some X-rays and checked me out just to have it on record. Hope you feel better!
I don't know anything about the Britax, but I thought it was standard protocol to replace the seat after any accident. M was still in an infant seat and we were going to switch to a convertible in the next month or so....so I went ahead and bought a convertible and told his insurance that I needed to be reimbursed for it. They asked for a copy of the receipt, and let me pick up a check at their local office the next day. It was so easy.
I might do this. I am going to talk to my H about it.

did you have to send pictures of the old seat with the straps cut and stuff? or did they just reimburse you, no questions asked?
