I've been trying to get back into running for the past 3-4 months. I usually run 2-4 miles a few times a week (when I do the 4 mile runs I have to walk a bit). I signed up for my first 10k this August (15 weeks away) and have a training plan printed out that I am starting today There is also a 10 mile race that is 3 weeks after the 10k. It's a really fun race (I did the 5k last year). I am looking at 10 mile training plans and don't know if that is realistic for me to be able to do? They are having a $10 off promotion today, so that is why I am trying to decide if I should sign up or not? I'd hate to sign up and not do it. Mentally I just don't know if I could run more than 5-6 miles? But I want to do it! My ultimate goal is to run a half marathon. I'm not sure what I'm really asking here....lol!
No it's not too ambitious. What's the longest distance the training plan has you going for the 10k? If its not more than the actual distance I would consider revising your plan to work towards the 10 miler and work the 10k into that. Going from 6.2 to 10 in 3 weeks is a bit much especially if you want to taper. Does that make sense?

The longest run on the 10k plan is 5.5 miles. I was thinking I'd switch to the 15k plan (Hal Higdon). I think it was a 10 week plan and I figure I can just repeat a few weeks early on if needed? I really want to do this...it's been a goal of mine for a long time, but I've never run more than a 7k and I'm really intimidated by the long runs. I need to get over it and do it!
