Well this is really disturbing. Especially since we have used the Scotts 4 Step Program pretty much every year of their whole lives. They are 9 & 10yo dogs. I'm sure we are full of this exposure too since the dogs are always in our laps and sleep in our bed. We did actually skip the 4-steps one year and our lawn looked really bad and was overtaken with creeping charlie.
We also had to use pesticide stuff this year b/c our yard (and dogs) had fleas. But I cant imagine the pesticide stuff is any worse than stuff like Frontline, which is recommended monthly in all warm months. That stuff does freak me out concerning long term effects so mine have only ever been treated for 2 specific flea outbreaks.

Diatomaceous earth and nematodes are great natural remedies you can use in the yard to help with fleas, ticks and other pests.
Food grade DE can be given to the dogs to ingest and it can be applied on their fur. They just can't inhale it. Not to mention, it is chemical free!!

Thanks! I already checked and our local Home Depot has the yard version in stock. The vet said I should use the Frontline 3 consecutive months to assure the fleas have been killed on the dogs and I've already done 2 treatments. I am definitely going to us the DE for the 3rd treatment and then continue to use it in my yard all summer. I had never even heard of this stuff. I am shocked the food grade DE costs so much less than Frontline and other toxic pesticides.
I am also surprised to read humans can ingest it to help detox with allergies. I have a severe dust mite allergy and am contemplating trying it.

YW.
Just FYI, the one that home depot sells is NOT food grade (unless it specifically states it is, but from the ones I have seen at that store it isn't). You can use it on the lawn and on their fur but you can't feed it to your pets.
