It expires tomorrow.
I went to bring I'm my twenty seven million forms of identification and have it renewed, but since i have fainted within the last two years a medical board needs to review and approve it before they can reissue.
So i am driving around with a white piece of paper as my license and need to carry my passport at all times.
How did they know you had fainted? I don't think I've ever been asked that, even when I lived in Florida. Is this new?
I don't remember ever being asked before either, but she said they always have. They asked if I had epilepsy, dizziness or fainting within the last two years.

But I'm glad they asked. Hopefully people will tell the truth and it will deter the elderly from driving when it is not safe. I've had some scary old patients driving...
It sucks, but its a safety measure for you as well as the general public.
My mom used to work for Driver's safety and she dealt with SO many olds/epileptics/diabetics who caused accidents and injuries because they would lie or withold information just so they could keep driving.
What state is this in? I worry because my dad has epilepsy, and has had his license revoked a few times over the years due to having seizures. If they ask him this at the DMV the next time he renews, what's to stop them from taking it again? He is closely monitored by his doc though, so maybe it would all be okay.
Weird indeed. I am T1 diabetic, and I've never been asked about fainting or anything of the sort.
I have to get a form signed by my doctor EVERY MOTHER EFFING YEAR in Utah becuase I'm diabetic. It's got like, levels of how controlled your diabetes is and I guess if it's way out of control you could lose your license.
I wish I would have known not to check the 'I'm a diabetic' portion when I moved here because it is seriously a PITA.

If he's had it revoked previously for seizures, its probably because his doctor alerted the DMV.

Oh yes, that was definitely the reason. I just am curious that if they are asking this at the time of renewal now, if they would instantly revoke it until he had his doc clear him. Its a huge PITA when he loses it, although I understand why. I just worry about my dad, that's all.

The husband has to do this because of the accident. In IL, it really is no big deal. There's a form you get off the DMV website, you have your doc fill it out, you send it in, and it is just about always approved. If it was a one-off event, your doc can say that and they will usually consider it a final report. The husband will have to send this one in every year for a few years, and he's doing the renewal now. It sucks, but I do get why.

Someone called and asked me about it and said that i am good so the answer to the question would be no. I told her that i explained the same thing to the woman behind the counter and you could hear the eye roll in her voice that the other woman insisted i need a medical review.
So now i have my new license and don't need to worry about it until they change the law again requiring new documentation. And I'm glad because i took a nice picture.
In Ohio I have a two part license because I have epilepsy. I have to get the second part renewed every couple years. In NY (where I first got my license), if I had a seizure or any sort of episode, my doctor was required to report it and my license would be suspended. Ohio is not a mandatory report state, but if the doc feels the person is not safe to drive, they can report it.
It's a pain in my ass, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

My sister has epilepsy and after any seizure, she wasn't allowed to drive until she was seizure free/epilepsy controlled for 2 years. THAT I understand. But fainting isn't really the same IMO.
