There is a 6th grader in my class who hasn´t showered today, and probably for a couple of days, because he has a swarm of gnats around his head. His neighbors are visibly grossed out and are snickering about him.
Does the school have any sample sized hygiene products? Or could you pick some up? I worked with a person in college who was really bad about showering, and our boss one day gave him some shampoo and soap and a really sweet conversation about the importance of hygiene. Maybe a good approach here?

In Peru? Probably not.......

LOL, I think I should stock my desk with some. I have lots of little deodrants and soap, but it never occurred to me to have shampoo and/or conditioner.

How do I deal with this?
I agree with sending him to the nurse. Maybe you could make this an every other day or every morning thing, where she can wash his hair (if needed) and at least get his neck and face washed. Poor kid

It's quite possible he's not bathing of his own accord. My brother went through a phase like this around that age. It was...interesting. He did grow out of it!

Good point! I forgot they don't sell soap and shampoo in Peru. Damn, Jalapeñomel, I bet you can't WAIT to get back home to the USA and wash your hair!

Seriously? Way to completely twist my point out of proportion
Schools in America don't generally provide hygiene products to students, I can't imagine it's a common occurrence where Jalapeño is.
I was being TIC. Your post made it sound like you didnt believe that sample sizes exist in Peru at all, not that they probably don't provide them at school.
Sixth grade is old enough to know that he needs to bathe. Speak to him privately, and gently, and tell him to go and wash up even if it is with a bar of soap.
If he needs shampoo at home maybe you can give him a bottle?

Our school does and it's so helpful. Our nurse is the sweetest thing ever and sends us samples of deodorant, tampons, pads, and shampoo/conditioner (but we do have showers in the gym). I think last year's pack even had a mini toothbrush and a little packet of toothpaste!
I had to go to summer school between 7th and 8th grade and because both my parents worked, I had to walk to and from school every day. Which of course left me sweaty and gross. I was 12, puberty was just working its magic, and my mom was kind of hands off about the whole thing so I didn't really know better.
One day I got to school and A MEAN GIRL started making fun of me for being sweaty and greasy haired. It was so embarassing.
But it shamed me into showering and wearing deoderant every damn day from there on out. And I don't necessarily think it was a bad thing.

The weird part is that his older brother is clean.

Well then, he's just probably being a stinky boy. Some kids don't like bathing everyday when they get to that age which is really strange when you take into consideration that that's the time they start to smell.

Since Lola had asked if the school had samples to give the kid, i thought it was clear we were discussing the school specifically and not the entire country
