We're just going to split names 50-50. The first kid will have her last name, the second one mine, etc. we'll probably stop at 2 though.
W's parents did this. It's fine except ever year the kids have to explain the situation to teachers. "yes, Stuart O and Rose K are twins. You see, mom's last name is O and dad's is K. Look I know it's unusual but it makes sense when you think about it. HEY I KNOW IT'S HARD LEARNING TWENTY NEW NAMES BUT CAN YOU TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS FOR JUST A SECOND HERE?!?" Etc.
I'm keeping my last name. Any hypothetical kids will get his name. Socially though I don't mind being known by his. Its only for work purposes that I want mine.
I added Jake's last name to mine (so it's Maiden Married, 2 name last name) because it was important to me for legal reasons to have the same last name as my kids. They have Married as their last name but Maiden as a 2nd middle name (which is what Jake did). So all 4 of us have Maiden and Married in our names.
It also seemed annoying to me to hyphenate or give them 2 last names, only because I don't know what they'd want to do when/if they got married or in a long term relationship. I wanted to make sure they had options and that seems easier with one last name.

It may seem annoying but it's common in other cultures and they have managed to make it work.
I hyphenated. I wish I would have just taken H's last name or kept mine. It's so long now. Most of the time people just ignore the hyphen and refer to me by my first name + H's last name, which usually results in "You're "--- ---? I didn't expect that!". H's last name is a very common last name from South/Central America. I guess they aren't expecting a blonde. It's annoying.
DH and I are not having kids, but managed to get into an argument about this (since he just assumed that the children we are not having would have his last name), so I am glad this is not something I have to deal with!

I kept my maiden, no hyphen. My son has DH's last name as will our next child. People sometimes call me Mrs. DHlastname, I don't mind it but do always feel like my MIL. It mostly happens when it has something to to with DS school.
I do NOT like it when people refer to me as Mrs. H'slastname. Especially when I just gave them my name. I know it's going to happen a lot more now, though.
Is your h's name the first or second part of the hyphenated last name? If it's the last, I could see people glossing over the middle part.
The only people who regularly address me as Lazy Hlastname are his family members, who are mortally offended that I didn't change my name. He is often addressed as Mr. Phoque, though, since I am the take care of business party in our relationship. He likes it since he can just say he is not Mr. Phoque and continue to avoid taking care of shit.
We both kept our names. The kids have my last name as a second middle and H's last name.
I originally considered hyphenating their names but opted against it because it's a really long name when combined and I thought "What a hassle for school." Well, his school went ahead and hyphenated it on every single form and no amount of "no, no, no, it's JUST lastname" has prompted them to change it.

I was afraid to drop my maiden completely because I'm published under it and my degrees are under it. I never officially changed my name, but socially I go by H's last name. His is so easy to say and spell compared to mine, so I'm considering just sucking it up and 100% changing to his, but I'm lazy so I'm waiting for my passport and DL to expire next year.
