FIL'S test results for "It's either lymphoma or it's another cancer that has metastasized" all came back negative for cancer. Which is amazing. But he still has all the symptoms of late stage cancer. They have ruled out sarcoidosis and some other things. He's lived in SF/bay area since the 60s so he was here at the height of the AIDS epidemic (ie. before they knew what it was and instituted the current infection prevention measures). Sure, it's unlikely that he's had a dormant case for four decades, but nothing seems likely at this point and his symptoms are commensurate with full blown AIDS.
(I've had three HIV tests myself in as many years and that is what brought it to mind. Not because I have any symptoms but just because I'm a breeder).
(PS: Some of you might find the answer to "why is she worrying about an unlikely pregnancy problem?" in this thread. There I get some control and choice about the outcome.)
Do they not just run AIDS tests as kind of an initial thing to rule stuff out? I guess I assumed they did, but maybe not.
Apparently they've run an appallingly small number of blood tests. They have done biopsies, CT scans and other tests but only a fraction of the blood tests DH would consider routine under the circumstances. HIV wasn't one of them.

Oh, interesting. Even if it is unlikely it might provide answers and if it doesn't then at most all he lost was a little blood. I hope you find answers soon.
You are worrying about a lot of things that might not ever happen, and since you can't take a Xanax I don't know what to suggest. I can feel your stress over the computer screen. Are you trying not to bother your husband or is he not being supportive right now? I think you should call your OBYN. Even though you are not inventing these issues I do think you are really stressed out by them, before you need to be, and that isn't good. I am sorry. Sarah may come kill me, but it really will be OK. You made it through your dad and a horrible birth, you'll get through any or all of this too.

Sometimes. But if you have a draw for an ELISA or Western Blot, you would be informed and be asked to give consent.
My sister had HIV/AIDS and even with sepsis and other opportunistic infections and a hx of IV drug use, it wasn't a first line test back in ye olde days. She was in the hospital less than a year before for almost 6 weeks fight sepsis and they didn't ask to run an ELISA until she was there almost 4 weeks. She knew she was HIV+, but was pretty demented by this point and not making rational decisions.
