It's probably the millionth time this has been discussed, but I never ready the posts.
We are going to a wedding on Friday night and the groom's neighbor is a college student and has offered to watch DD. It would be for no more than 5 hours (about 530pm-10/11), the wedding is less than a mile away (not that that matters). We are planning on getting them pizza for dinner.
What would you pay? We have actually never had to pay anyone for them to watch DD. So, we are clueless.
for 5 hrs, I'd pay $60-$70. But if I went over the 5 hours, I'd round up to the nearest hour/$10. So like when we have a sitter for 5-6 hours, we pay $80, because our base rate is $12/hr. so 12x6=72, rounded up to $80. If that makes sense. It might be a lot, but I want to make sure our sitters LOVE to sit for us.
This is going to vary greatly by location. I live in a HCOL area (nice suburb outside of San Francisco) and would have to pay $15-$18 an hour for a college aged sitter depending on experience.

It is in a rural area, on a river, not far from Lancaster/HAnover PA.
I was thinking about $10 per hour, get them dinner, and maybe a little more $ if it goes longer. Another $10/20 extra won't make or break us. So for 5 hours, maybe just aim for $60.
