I heard on the news it's going to be 100 where you live. How on earth will you train? It only gets to be that hot 2 or three days a year around here. I just can't fathom that hot all of the time.
Ahhhh it's a dry heat - it's not so bad. I get it all in before 9 am if I can . It actually kind of sucks in June, but by July I feel pretty well acclimated. It's really much easier on the bike, too. I will ride in the afternoon as long as I have plenty of sunblock.
Starting the run leg of a race when it's 100 doesn't feel quite so lovely, I will admit.
I'm pretty sure Zoid hates it. coconutbug - you've been all over the map, what do you think?
Well, the dry heat makes it not as bad as it could be. I definitely prefer this over the humid Florida summers I used to slog through. I was up near joenali in WA for a day yesterday though; the summers there are great!
::bip:: It regularly gets up to 100 where I live too. Early mornings are key, but you definitely get used to it. It really helps that it's dry heat. I actually like the hot runs sometimes! (and if it gets too unbearable I can just go over to san francisco where it's pretty much never warmer than 70 any day of the year)
butting in sorry.. today here it was 112 and I have to either run in the early am or today I will run after the sun goes down. It is still warm but no sun on you feels heavenly and you get a slight breeze. This will be my first summer actually training so I am hoping if I can do it during the heat that come fall race time I will see improvement in my times.

Soooo hot! I wish you well!!
Thanks! I will need all the motivation from the board I can get
I run at 5:30 am and curse the entire time because it is already above 70. This weekend when I have to do 8 or 9 miles at 7am, I might die. Be prepared.
Seriously, I am the biggest heat wuss who ever lived. I just limp-cry my way through it and then whine for the rest of the day.
Yeah, actually the high 90s-100s don't really bother me when I'm just doing regular life stuff. But I can't stand to be even a little bit hot when I work out, it seems like I just overheat in .0001 seconds if it's over 70 or so.
Plus the sun here (Albuquerque) is just crazy. I looked it up today, and our UV index for midday is actually higher than Phoenix.
Two things: 1) It is 83* with 83% humidity at 5:16AM here this morning. AYFKM? 2) Your mixed reviews on 'dry' heat are not making me feel much better about the prospect of signing up to run in the desert.

But look at it this way, you're already use to really hot weather & high humidity. You're taking away one of those things. That has to be better, right? I haven't lived in dry heat, but I've experienced it and seriously....it's the humidity. At least for me it is. You'll be ok!

I lived in Wisconsin for almost my entire life. I cannot handle the heat at all, but I can handle the cold like a champ. Don't let my heat-wuss-ness frighten you.

As I discovered this morning. Good GOD. I was wet like I got rained on and I barely sweat at home, even when it's "hot".
Dry heat sucks. All heat sucks. Give me 40 degrees any day.

I'm the opposite. I've lived in the South all my life. While I may not *love* 90+ degrees and 99% humidity I can handle it. I can ride in it. I can exercise in it. I do NOT handle the cold well. I freeze when I ride and temps are below 50 no matter what clothing I have on. I ride when it's below 50, but I hate it.

It is unreal, right? When I stepped out of my house this morning it felt like I was stepping into a steamy post-shower bathroom.
I don't do heat and working out. I tried last year when visiting Nebraska in the middle of a heat wave. Running outside at 10pm with 95 degree heat plus humidity was torture. I think the longest I ran was maybe two miles? I wouldn't even really call it running.

Preach on, sister. I think 40 degrees is my absolutely ideal running temp.
