Does anyone have any good ideas for what I can give my cat to prevent hairballs? We have an older cat who frequently throws up catfood and hairballs. I've tried many different kinds of the hairball meds in the tubes- but I can't get the cat to eat it!! No matter where I put it (on her nose, her paw, etc) she can get rid of it without licking it- and usually makes a mess in the process! I was hoping there was some kind of "natural" thing I could use. I try to comb her several times a week, when she'll let me....

Frequent brushing really is the best prevention. At this time of year even that doesn't help one of my cats though, and she hates the tubes too. So I give her these. Not the most natural treat, but at least she'll eat them!
Brush her often, preferably with a Furminator type brush. You can try giving her a tiny (and I mean tiny) bit of extra powdered fiber to help move things through the other end (but you should probably talk to your vet about that first).
