WH Discussion Day 4

Everyone hanging in? I actually finished over the weekend, so I'm not sure what to comment on-- I don't want to accidentally spoil anything. I think I remember getting more into the story around the halfway point and starting to actually remember the names and relationships.

I'm definitely getting more into it. I think I'll finish it this weekend- at least that's my plan.

I got caught up this weekend. Heathcliff just brought Linton to live with him, so I'm interested to see how that pairing works out.

Do you think Heathcliff actually loves Catherine? There's an obsession there, but it is love? Is either one of them even capable of love? They're both so selfish, even when it comes to the other.

I'm still reading it. I just finished chapter 20 and was glad for the break. I don't want to find out what happens to little Linton.

I think Heathcliff loved Catherine as a child maybe but as an adult it just seems like obsession. He didn't even seem to like her when she was dying.

He also seems obsessed with Edgar because he is intent on destroying his life. Heathcliff already hurt Isabell but that isn't enough. He now has to ruin Edgar's daughter and nephew.

I'm really getting into the book now. All I feel is this overwhelming sadness and unhappiness for their lot. I pity little Catherine and Linton for their lost, unhappy mothers.

I don't know if it was Catherine and Heathcliff's love that made them mad or just their circumstances. Like, they were so bored they went hysterical AWs. Again, just sad.
